Wolcott had some of the best lines in the show.
>Are you my friend, Mr. Tolliver?
>>And someone past surprise at habits or inclination, or turns of events, and who don't confuse himself far as sitting in judgment with our Lord in fuckin' heaven.
>I see.
>>And who would never tattle to your employer or jeopardize what's got to be a handsome fuckin' income. God damn right, I am your friend, Mr. Wolcott. All I can't provide for the party is the cliff.
>Believing yourself past surprise does not commend you to me as a friend. A man inadequately sophisticated or merely ignorant, or simply stupid, may believe himself past surprise, then be surprised to discover, for example, that Mr. Hearst already knows of my inclinations and finds them immaterial. Suggesting as a corollary that your skills for blackmail and manipulation no longer are assets to you, and for your fatuous belief in their efficacy, in fact have become liabilities. In short, you've overplayed your hand. Now I should think, in consequence, now recognizing yourself as a man past his time, that during this last transitional period you would devote yourself with grateful and quiet diligence to such uses as others may still find you suitable.

Al feels to need to let out a lot of his thoughts in confidence of getting head or talking to one, it's a means of venting and decanting the amount of scheming he has to process in a day.

He seems respect the dead chief in a way that they had similar jobs as hierarchal figures of their respective camps, for both of them it was about peace, order and stomping out intruders.

One of my favorite Al quotes, long but a great scene:

"And out the door he'll go, and prompt as a Swiss timepiece three big-titted whores will now emerge from behind that screen. He lines 'em up at two-foot intervals, smock-tops down, and all but sprints past 'em, giving their titties a lick. And if he misses a titty, he does not let himself retrace his steps…And on he goes, on his way home, relieved for the day….Strange, huh, Miles?

But something you gotta know about specialists. They pay a premium, and they never cause fucking trouble. I sometimes imagine, in my declining years, running a small joint in Manchester, England, catering to specialists exclusively. And to let them know they're amongst their own, maybe I'll operate from the corner, hanging upside-down like a fucking bat."

does a more unlikeable character than Hearst even exist?
when i rewatched Deadswood for the first time, i actually tried to force myself into liking him, but it was futile, he is literally the most despicable, disgusting vile cunt of a character i've ever seen in any movie or tv show..

it's a testament to the actor, he was the best thing about house of cards before it went to shit
hearst is legitimately terrifying, that scene were he spits on E.B., his methodology is really interesting though, he's utterly despicable and you retract when you see him on screen, but you have to keep looking as his plots his next move or explains one of his many quirks

the film can't come around soon enough to see his potential demise, everyone in town wants him dead now

He won IRL and all the actors are old as shit, so that's probably not gonna happen.
