The comic is a critic on how fucked up vigilantes would be/get in real life, these heroes are psychos, crave for attention, and can't have erections unless they fight crime.
The movies dismisses all of this subtext glamorizing fight and sex scenes, at the same time it displays how megalomaniac and weird these people are.

1. Ozymandius was portrayed as a youthful, effete homosexual. Regardless of whether you read the comic book or not, he was an unthreatening, in fact risible "villain" and not at all convincing as a narcissistic mastermind
