Movie fucking when
James Franco finds the time inbetween Dude Weed Lmao movies
>>69132764
>DUDE KILL HARVEY OSWALD LMAO
>>69132764
How does Franco own the film rights?
I just finished it a few hours ago. Probably the best book I've ever read. There is just so much that would have to be left out in a film adaptation, and couldn't see it being less that 3 hours long.

He doesn't, luckily Tommy Lee Jones has them. Didn't stop Franco from turning yet another classic novel into his pretentious pseudo "art"
memebook
sage
>>69132736
Never. Can't be done properly.
>>69132736
We already got one
>>69134540
So why is it up to him to make the movie?
It was released in 1985 and it's one of the greatest novels of all time. There is a movie about No country for old men. How hasn't anyone made this yet?
>>69132736
http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/41630/hillcoat-on-adapting-mccarthy-s-meridian
>>69134971
because he's the only pseud retarded enough to film an unfilmable novel just to boost his literary cred
>>69135005
No Country for Old Men reads like a thriller though, I wouldn't be surprised if McCarthy wrote it intentionally so it would be easy to adapt.
>>69132736
Who should play Holden?
>>69135455
He's also made a film of As I Lay Dying.
I haven't watched it but I just looked at some reviews, spoilerit's shit.
>>69135540
>>69135005
NCFOM was actually written as a screenplay originally.
>>69135609
DDL
>>69135637
I've seen it, as well as Child of God, his (so far only) McCarthy adaptation. They are both horrendous. He also has adapted The Sound and the Fury, which is my favorite novel and a movie I won't ever dare watch
>>69135609
John Goodman from 20 years ago or Fat Brando.
Or this >>69135850 He'd have to put on some serious bulk though, the Judge is a big guy.
>>69135696
source?
>>69135890
Marlon Brando during his Island of Dr. Moreau Days would've been the best call.
>>69135609PSH
>>69135609
A well chosen unknown.
>>69136014
This. Like another Bardem before No Country.
>>69135856
Baffles me why people try to make these sort of books into movies.
>>69136048
They're post-modernist faggots.
>>69136174
I think they're just hacks.
If they were post-modernist faggots they'd make some indecipherable art movie, not a shit adaptation.
>>69134540
A shame they didn't go full into the degeneracy of Lester.
>>69132736
Hopefully never. I can only imagine an adaptation that would reduce, rather than transform the novel. Well, that's not entirely true. Probably could be done well. But it won't.
>>69136045
yeah. Like that. The star system is the bane of so many otherwise worthwhile films.
>>69136529
If it were adapted they would probably cut out most of the travelling and violence leaving just the scenes with dialogue. I could see the Kid being fleshed out into a sympathetic protagonist too.
Why do people fellate this book? All it is is 300 pages of dead Mexicans. Go on fucking liveleak and watch cartel gore if you want what the film would look like.
>>69136772
Who would play the kid?
>>69136870
Goose.
>>69136857
Because the prose is incredible.
>>69136772
That sounds pretty bad. Especially the idea of trying to flesh out the kid. I think the question is what is the worth of an adaptation if the adaptation is reductive? By reductive I don't mean abridged, I mean turned into something shallow. I'd prefer a re-imagination that captured something of the book in a new cinematic sense, than a shallow adaptation.
>>69135609
>>69135963
Man, what were they smoking?
>>69137212
Dead, also banned in Thailand. Not sure if we should build a robot replica of him... it might turn on us.
>>69137262
have to admit, old Brando might have pulled it off.
>>69137152
Something like Apocalypse Now is to Heart of Darkness might be good.
>>69137313
I feel like him playing holden would have been very similar to kurtz from apocalypse now
Not that thats a bad thing
>>69137356
Never read the book so i can't be sure. Is it very different?
>>69137384
Yeah, could be alright. Not entirely sure though. I really do think an unknown would be better. Best chance at mirroring the singularity of the character.
>>69137485
It is different, but at the same time it's unmistakable that Heart of Darkness is the main inspiration behind Apocalypse Now.
The main thing probably is something that's usually the other way around, Heart of Darkness is only just longer than a short story, so the movie actually expands upon it rather than cutting loads out.
>>69132736
this book is the biggest pleb bait in american literature
>>69137677
That's like calling someone the world's tallest dwarf.
>>69136931
Of course you'd say that. Wannabe intellectuals adore this kind of shit. In reality Blood Meridian is poorly written and fundamentally flawed. McCarthy is a natural but he'll never be mistaken for Faulkner.
>>69137774
What's the fundamental flaw?
And obviously Faulkner is superior, who the fuck is arguing otherwise.
>>69134574
A six episodes mini series, run by the guy from Deadwood and some spicy production would a guarenteed hit. Preferably on HBO
>>69136014
This. Should be british tho
Innaritu. The Revenant gave me some strong reminders to this book and the Border Trilogy.
>>69137576
That's interesting. So would you say heart of darkness is readable in an afternoon? If so I'll probably do that soon.
>>69137677
>this weird kind of elitism that thinks there are no differences in taste when considering what counts as great works
Why can't you just say you don't like it? To be able to substantiate an argument as to why it's a terrible book would take some serious effort. I'm certain you have not made that effort.
>>69137774
Slightly more promising. Can you expanded on what the "poor writing and fundamentally flawed" aspect? If not you're just being boring.
>>69138028
>So would you say heart of darkness is readable in an afternoon?
Yup, easily.
>>69138021
NO. Please no. Innaritu is far too bombastic.
While I can't imagine him being attracted to it, I'd love to see someone like Bilge-Ceylan direct it.
>>69138077
Sweet. Lined-up.
>>69135609
Vincent D'Onofrio or Val Kilmer.
