Bonus point for lesser known stuff.
Favorite is the Blob from 1988, watched it as a kid during the 90s and loved it ever since, love the blob design and the practical effects and deaths are amazing.
Recently watched The Relic, was pretty decent.

Maybe try Deep Star Six and Leviathan if you haven't seen either of those. They're pretty much like Alien, The Thing, and The Abyss all jammed into one movie. They're no Blob remake but they're alright.

Grabbers is a good recent one if you like 'em funny and comfy. It's like Tremors if Tremors was Irish. Effects are CG but the cinematography and landscapes make up for it.

over-reliance on special effects and CGI, just because "it's cheaper/easier to do". same as to why hand-drawn animation is sadly dead in both movies and tv. and while the point of it being cheaper might be valid, it mostly just shows a deep lack of real passion for the craft.

i don't mind stuff like the avengers, where it's comic book heroes fighting villains and shit like that, or something like pacific rim or godzilla in a way it kinda fits the style of movie, but when everything is a CGI and special effects fest, then it becomes a problem.
and even worse is the tragic situation we're in where creativity is so low people are resorting to reviving, rebooting and giving sequels to just about anything in a desperate attempt of scoring with nostalgia or the popularity/name of a title alone.

Bigfoot: The Lost Coast Tapes was pretty decent for a found footage movie. Decent tension, it knew its shortcomings, and there is no better setting than the Pacific Northwest.
