Recommend me some nice monster/creature movies.
Bonus point for lesser known stuff.
Favorite is the Blob from 1988, watched it as a kid during the 90s and loved it ever since, love the blob design and the practical effects and deaths are amazing.
Recently watched The Relic, was pretty decent.

Maybe try Deep Star Six and Leviathan if you haven't seen either of those. They're pretty much like Alien, The Thing, and The Abyss all jammed into one movie. They're no Blob remake but they're alright.
>>
>>69116956
I think I've watched one of those. Was similar to alien except it took place in some underwater station of sorts I believe. I'm guessing it was Leviathan, I'll give Deep Star 6 a try.
>>69116876
Will watch.

How's Q:The Winged Serpent?

Splinter
Deep Rising
>>
>>69116844
Slither
Splinter
Isolation (2005)
Forbidden World/Mutant
Galaxy of Horror
Phantoms
Leviathan
John Carpenter’s The Thing
Poltergeist
Deep Star Six
Black Sheep (2006)
Deep Rising
Dead Space: Downfall
The Burrowers
Dead Birds
Pandorum
The Kindred
Alligator (1980)
Dead Alive/Braindead (1992)

Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale (2010)

I was surprised.

This had some really freaky nightmare fuel for me in the 1980s. I never used those curly straws ever again.

Oh shit, I remember that. Rather I remember the VHS cover in the rental store and not being allowed to rent it.
>>
Grabbers is a good recent one if you like 'em funny and comfy. It's like Tremors if Tremors was Irish. Effects are CG but the cinematography and landscapes make up for it.

>>69117287
Both Wolfen and Q are more crime thrillers than monster movies tbqh, although there are creatures of course. They're worth a watch, but not essential.

>>69117853
I'd second these. By The Host he means the 2006 movie from Korea, and Feast can be turned off after the first 15 minutes, though.
>>
>>69118645
Split Second (1992)
>>
>>69118071
seconding Splinter.
It has a more serious Tremorsy feel to it.
It's a ragtag group of nobodies outsmarting a monster.
>>
>>69118811
didn't mean to quote that post specifically
>>
Come for the monster, stay for the Tangerine Dream score.

You forgot how you don't see them until the end of the movie and then they look like simple wolves. It's also the same boring James Horner score he used in Wrath of Khan and later in Aliens.

the atmosphere, sets, cinematography and the mood are what you watch mimic for though, it's pure monster-kino

Same. I think I even watched them the same day, same rentals.
>>
>>69118980
over-reliance on special effects and CGI, just because "it's cheaper/easier to do". same as to why hand-drawn animation is sadly dead in both movies and tv. and while the point of it being cheaper might be valid, it mostly just shows a deep lack of real passion for the craft.

They both came out the same year. It is the typical thing where 2 studios know what the other is up to and copies them and tries to get their movie out there first. Like Deep Impact and Armageddon.

gotta love them generic af titles
>>
>>69119734
i don't mind stuff like the avengers, where it's comic book heroes fighting villains and shit like that, or something like pacific rim or godzilla in a way it kinda fits the style of movie, but when everything is a CGI and special effects fest, then it becomes a problem.

and even worse is the tragic situation we're in where creativity is so low people are resorting to reviving, rebooting and giving sequels to just about anything in a desperate attempt of scoring with nostalgia or the popularity/name of a title alone.
>>
>>69120060

Not that guy but Creep (2014) is found footage but not a monster movie. Creep from 2004 with Franka Potente isn't found footage, that's what you're looking for.
>>
>>69120087

>>
>>69120719
I remember seeing that in theatres it's really underrated
>>
Bigfoot: The Lost Coast Tapes was pretty decent for a found footage movie. Decent tension, it knew its shortcomings, and there is no better setting than the Pacific Northwest.
>>
>>69120686
>>69120719
>>69120829
Yeah, I was surprised. It started out so cliche.

Another that starts out cliche is "The Cabin in the Woods". I actually didn't make it through the first like 20 mins or so because I didn't know the premise.
>>
>>69120853
M man Bigfoot movies have great potential but are usually underwhelming. Willow creek is good for the last 20 min payoff. but the idea of an 8 foot ape roaming the wilderness unseen at night is terrifying whether it's gonna eat you kill you rape you or just creepily watch you is plain spoopy
>>
>>69119405
This. The 80's one is fucking great, and was WAAY more disturbing than I was expecting.
