I think no one would've given a shit if the trailer looked good. There were definitely people who went to incredible lengths to dislike the trailer on multiple accounts (which is just pointless, disregarding any misogyny that may or may not have influenced that) but many, MANY people have said that they just didnt like it. and considering that, whether you agree or not, Ghostbusters is this classic movie that many love. not only that, but it was (arguably) never whored out to the degree that many other 80s films were, it was kind of an untouchable jewel.
There's plenty of factors to take into account with the trailer's reception. What makes me personally angry is that its just written off as just mostly "misogyny", while the trailer is just plainly weak with its humor and nostalgia bait.

My problem is that Ghostbusters is an iconic movie that stands the test of time. It's lovable and has a huge fanbase. I would be against any remake of the franchise, especially one that fits into the bland formula every comedy seems to follow nowadays. The trailer indicates exactly that. I thought that idea might be funny depending on how the characters are. time travely/historical reference comedy movies are always hit or miss. Actually that was the original plot but a lot has changed. They recast the villain and now he's some nerdy betamale who was picked on his whole life and wants to take revenge by making a machine that summons ghosts. He gets killed by his own machine after the GB catch up to him which leads him to posses Mccarthy like in the trailer then Chris Hemsworth. The whole plot was leaked by a post production worker on reddit and it keeps getting proven more and more every week. Hell even today a toy of a female slimer was shown driving the Ecto-1 just like the leak said. Long story short the movie is fucking trash.
