Thoughts on this ?
>>
I never had friends or an actual childhood so most of its lost on me.
>>
>>69103716
Classic /tv/
>>
>>69103694
Real friendships even between children are much more Machiavellian and less intimate than this movie implies.
>>
>>69103694
A film women will never understand.
>>
I didn't get it. Especially not the "and then they all died" part.
>>
>>69103837
Are you a woman?
>>
>>69104051
I don't even understand it. I'm not a normalfag
>>
>>69104092
No, just self aware you dumb normie.
>>
>>69104139
You sound like a bitter loser or actual sociopath.

Never got those people who had no friends as children.

>>69104229
Ikr, should've just been themselves

>that cast
Has there ever been such a great movie where the actors ended up so
>JUST
>>
>>69104229
Same, separating yourself from people when you get older is understandable. How do you not know how to make friends when you're fucking ten?, or not want to?

Anyway stand by me is a classic for people over 25 in England.
>>
>>69104312
Most kids and people in general are ugly, that's no excuse. You hang around with the ugly kids if you have to.
>>
GOAT
>>
>>69103694
Pretty good, a tad overrated.
>>
I love it, one of my favorite films.
Unlike most of /tv/ I had a relatively non-autistic childhood and can relate to the movie a lot.
>>
>>69103837
>never has experienced real friendships in his life
>somehow thinks of himself as an authority on the subject of "real friendships"

okay
>>
>>69104692
Same. Brought me back to the times when we'd run miles out into the woods and hunt for monsters and werewolves. Kids can't really do that these days
>>
Why is late 50s/early 60s such a magic time?

Not even being "le wrong generation" but these coming-of-age movies set in the era, like this, Hearts in Atlantis, Flipped make me really nostalgic for a time I never experienced.
>>
How can you take wil's performance seriously knowing he grew up to be such a cuckold?

>>
>>69104899
Because that's the age when the people who write these things were children. Thus when they write nostalgia, they write about their own childhoods.

When you're old and having your midlife crisis, you'll set your nostalgia stories back in the 90s or the 00s, or whenever you were a child and "everything was good."

It makes me sad seeing the kids in this neighborhood not get to have that sort of childhood. The woods near my house was sold when I was in my late teens and the new owner fenced it off and has a security system for trespassing (and had about 60 years worth of forts and treehouses built by kids demolished). At least most still have backyards, but there's nothing like the childhood where you get to play in the woods.
>>
>>69104899
It wasn't a magic time. The reason you think of it as a magic time is because the coming of age movies set in those areas are meant to be nostalgic, and are usually written by people who were children in those eras or based on books written by people who were children in those areas.

GOAT because of the dynamic between the actors IRL

That's what made the film more visceral.

he's right tho. I had a normal childhood along with tons of other kids, and (at least where we live) nobody was crying to each other, telling their feelings. every kid wanted to be manly, and try not to give a fuck
>>
>>69109519
Then it what sense did you have real friends?
>>
>>69104448
>or not want to?

I moved to a new place when I was like 9-10 and there was a long time where I stuck by myself because I didn't want to make new friends, I wanted my old friends "back home". Like, people tried to include me during recess at school and stuff and I just shied away. Until another new kid showed up and I'd given up the illusion of moving back. I could see singularly single-minded people just sticking with pushing-everyone-away tactic.
>>
>>69109519
>dude I totally had friends
>we just never entrusted each-other with our deepest hopes, fears or thoughts at some point, because we were too afraid to lose the mask of manliness

They weren't proper friends, mate. Or you just had a really weak and shitty childhood without anything to share.

Best adaptation of a King story along with The Shawshank Redemption. Why does he bother with horror when he's much better with other types of fiction?

>>69108528
Born in 1989 here. Being a 90's kid was great. We rode bikes, fished, and played war with our Nerf guns. I even remember the time I opened a lemonade stand with the other neighborhood kids.
>>
>>69110118
Seriously though how can you share your feelings with another guy when you're a kid, he'll just use it to laugh at you or fuck you up.

It is inconceivable to me that there are cultures where children do this.
>>
>>69110267
>walked free from court

He went to court for bicycle-seat-sniffing? That seems rather excessive, really. Unless he's being a nuisance to people to do the sniffing, why bother to go further than laughing at him?
>>

By having an actual friend, not just some guy you meet some times at the borscht-factory and exchange a few words with.

It's inconceivable to me that there are cultures where children don't have friends.
>>
>>69110703

Well we also shoplifted and vandalized property together. That's what friends do... right?
>>
>>69110762
I sure as fuck wouldn't do it with your "Friends". They sound like the type that's snitch on you as soon as it became profitable for them or they decided to fuck with you.
