Dragonball Evolution wasn't even that bad of a movie. Maybe he didn't take the source material as seriously as the fanboys do, but is there really anything wrong with not taking Dragonball seriously? It's a comedy show, aimed at children, about a monkey boy who travels around the world fighting monsters and searching for seven mystical orbs.
In the end, Dragonball Evolution was a Stephen Chow-style martial arts movie with a half-decent story that's loosely based on the original Dragonball anime.
Maybe it wasn't a totally accurate adaptation, but it was a decent movie. It's not like The Last Airbender or something where it's complete shit even if you never watched the source material.
I didn't mind the movie and it was the first brd I bought.
