Why is 80's horror so comfy?
>>
I have been seeking the film Unmasked Part 25 for years now. Every time I find a VHS copy I like online it gets bought up. I refuse to settle for subpar casings and sleeves. It looks like GOAT film tho

80's horror VHS covers are so great.
As a kid I used to love going to the video rental place just to gawk at the horror section even though I was too scared to watch most of the movies.

Me too, sometimes the movie I made up in my head was better than the movie ultimately ended up being. In the case of Evil Dead 2, the movie EXCEEDED the bland VHS cover. I never felt the "skull with eyes" poster and VHS cover captured the insanity of Evil Dead 2 very well.

ED2 sucks ED1 is the only good movie Raimi ever made get a life faggot
>>
>>69090159
ED1 is an incompetent pile of shit that people need to tell themselves is a comedy in order to enjoy it.
>>
>>69090198
I don't think it's a comedy at all I think it is a sheer hard terror film and one of the scariest things I have ever seen, not to mention its the closest thing to a true Lovecraftian film we'll ever get

This.

Childs play and some other doll movie really fucked me up, relatives.
>>
>>69090245
I'm sure it would have scared me as a kid but I missed the boat on that. For me it ventures into the territory of unintentional humour.

I think ED2 is the most solid in the series. It walks the line between comedy and horror well.

Army of Darkness was enjoyable but too goofy. No trace of horror left so it reminds me of an adventure show like Xena or Hercules.
>>
>>69090382
I didn't watch the first one until I was 18
ED2 does nothing for me as a comedy or as a horror for some reason. I have tried to like it but I feel nothing watching it
AoD's a joke of a film but I can see its charm

Childs Play scared the piss out of me. My sister rented the first two when I was a kid and it made me scared of dolls and even toddlers for years.

What was the other doll movie? Pinocchio's Revenge? Puppet Master?

Still prefer this

I bought the Terrorvision/Video Dead Dvd/Blu Ray combo awhile back. Terrorvision was fantastic, but I didn't really enjoy The Video Dead.
>>

When I was young the horror section was behind a curtain in most stores too. Just looking at the covers would spook me.
>>
>>69091391
Yeah horror and porn was in a little back room through a curtain at my place, over 18s only. I had to send my dad in to get horror movies for me. Eventually they stopped doing porn and got rid of the curtain and I could finally browse the movies.

Here's a real blast from the past: A 20/20 expose on "VCR Horrors". Notice how they subtly edit the footage of the kids laughing at Evil Dead 2 to make it look like they're laughing at the clip from Prison. Lack of journalistic integrity is not a new thing:

Clearly unbiased journalism at its best.

Seeing that VHS always creeped the fuck out of me as a kid. I found the concept of a killer Santa Claus to be really disturbing.

I never did see the movie but I assume it blows.
>>
>>69093804
eh, it's not high art. the second one became a meme
>>
>>69093804
>I never did see the movie but I assume it blows.

Yeah it's not good. But there is a Tales from the Crypt episode about a killer Santa Claus that is actually pretty creepy. It's what Silent Night, Deadly Night should have been.
>>
>>69090089
I remember that too. It was so striking. Left a big impression on me.
>>
>>69089731
I tried to torrent this once and it had no seeders, still would like to see it
