People keep saying that but it's just not true. All the worst atrocities regarding costumes were version that had been "improved" for their on screen appearance.
Keeping it close to the original works really well as long as the costume is made well. Batman 89 and the Spider-man movies are prime examples of faithful costumes knocking it out of the park. Green Goblin looked like shit though because he was re-imagined.
Or just recently, Deadpool. Fucking perfect costume, also the best looking Colossus. Why? Because it's the closest Colossus has appeared on screen to his classic look. The classic costumes work of they are well made. Of course it looks like shit if it's Captain America made for TV movie from the 90s or something.
