D&D logic is as follows;
Davos lost Stannis and Shireen. They were essentially all he had left in the world. He lost his cause, so in his mind the only thing left that he can fight for is what Jon has been warning them about. He probably sees Jon as the best hope of uniting the North against the massive thread from beyond the wall.
The problem with this logic is that there's not even a setup to this. It could have easily been solved with a few scenes of Davos and Jon last season where Jon explains to Davos the things he saw, specifically at Hardhome.
Jon literally battled a White Walker in SINGLE COMBAT and won, after witnessing their power and what they did to his iron weapons. We didn't get ONE FUCKING SCENE of Jon discussing this with anyone at the watch, or even mentioning the things he saw at hardhome. NOT ONE FUCKING SCENE. It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, D&D are such shit writers that they couldn't come up with a simple 5min scene where maybe Jon calls a meeting as LC to discuss what happened at Hardhome and to let his brothers know what he and the others there witnessed, and that this army of the dead and their ice-lord masters must be stopped.
But nope, we got NOTHING on that. If they had a simple scene like that we would understand why Davos joins the loyal KWmen, and why he would be willing to sacrifice his life over what Thorne and the others did.
