Do you think they would have honored Cypher's wishes or just kill him?
>>
probably turned him into a steak
>>
>>69073097
Why would they let a good battery go to waste?
>>
>>69073097
well they weren't cruel and making him live in a paradise was of literally no cost to them
>>
>>69073097
The real question you gotta ask is if was it even possible.
>>
Their plan was to invade Zion like they did in Revolutions, except come in through the front doors with Morpheus' code, there's no way they could guarantee he'd survive the onslaught.

And anyway, he was stuck alone on the ship in the sewers, I don't know if he could fly it either to Zion or to the surface, or contact the machines without someone to help him plug into the matrix.
>>
It's established in the Animatrix that the machines hate humans and their devious cunning ways.

Cypher was the epitome of everything they hated, and trusting him was only a means to an end.
>>
>>69073097
"what do you think I am, human?" applies to this too
>>
>>69075217
This. They honoured their sgreement with Neo when they could have fucked Zion hard.
>>
>>69075501
That "they" was the entire machine consciousness or something though, the "they" that OP was talking about is Smith, Brown and Jones who didn't give a fuck about anything except destroying freed humans.
>>
>>69073432
This. Once you enter there's no going back
>>
Machines do not lie when it costs them nothing and they have something to gain, in this case a perfectly good battery. They don't know malice or gratitude. They measure everything in cost/benefit.

this

agent smith was broke from the beginning
the other agents might have honored it though

"not like this...........not like this"

She kinda looks like Keanu Reeves.
>>
>>69073322
But isn't the entire matrix precisely calibrated to minimize the number of neos that crop up, which then requires a reboot? Wouldn't altering that programming to keep cypher happy compromise that principle?
>>
>>69073097
Cypher had a point
A steaks a steak even if it isnt real
>>
>>69076301
They learned emotions during the Second Renaissance.
>>

Smith was the one negotiating the deal.

Do you honestly think Smith would be forthright in a negotiation with a backstabbing asshole like him.

He'd probably get off on slowly destroying his consciousness. That or reinsert him and make him some bum/male prostitute sucking dick on the street before he blows his own brains out.
>>
>>69076675
Do you think Smith would actually have the capability to derive amusement from something like that? Be able to think back and say "Ha, got him good"
>>
>>69076749
Not amusement so much as satisfaction. He really doesn't like humans. Why doesn't he realize itz only smellz.
>>
>>69076749

He sure seemed to enjoy trying to break Morpheus. While his little speech described how sickened he was of the whole affair he also seemed to get some satisfaction out of it if not excitement. Hence him removing his earpiece for others not to listen in on his ramblings.

I have no doubt he would have derived immense satisfaction to gain codes to Zion and then fuck Cypher's deal as well since he considers humans a mere parasites to be crushed.
>>
>>69076520
No.
>>
>>69076520

There is only ever one anomaly in the programming from the Architect's speech.

I've never understood how Smith played into all of that though since nobody every explains it. He's just kind of there.

You could argue that Neo altered Smith but Smith was already going rogue by the middle of the first movie when he takes his earpiece off and pretty much disconnects and does his own thing to get at Morpheus.

In all the other instances of the Matrix that failed were there Smith-like programs there as well? Was the Architect just over-confident and his whole speech there to show pure hubris?

When a computer tells you it's going to do something, it usually happens

Nice try skynet.
>>
>>69077169
I just look at it like Smith was an damaged anomaly that never happened in the machine vs Zion history. They actually has to use The One to beat the anomaly or machine city was screwed this time. Neo never got to pick who he wanted to save to start the new Zion after the reboot because of the Smith shitstorm. I believe Smith took them all by surprise but there are millions of different theories and any one of them could be correct. We'll never know.
>>
>>69077169
>>69077843
They controlled the programming anomaly to the point that it was an expected flaw and they ran the normal shutdown and reboot procedure.

But even this was an imperfect system that did not have everything accounted for, and that eventually gave rise to another anomaly: smith.

Basically: even when you plan for a controlled fuckup, you can still fuckup your fuckup.

It was the whole point of having the oracle and the architect. Smith is there to prove that not all machines and programs are as orderly and perfect as they are designed.

The architect could only handle things that can be weighed, measured, quantified, etc. The oracle was an empathic program used to anticipate and deal with all the things that the architect was blind to.

Chaos exists, and no system is perfect, no matter how well ordered. The oracle anticipated the breakdown in the system.
