The Davros episodes were a narrative mess. The misused Missy, wasted the Daleks, and frankly wasted our time. Unless you like the Doctor ripping Davros out of his chair or playing guitar from an anachronistic armoured assault vehicle. The things swung big and missed even bigger.
Deep Breath and Sherwood told their stories, had some neat and/or cringey moments, and got on with it.
Series 8 is GOAT. Kill the Moon, ItFotN and Death in Heaven are the only episodes under 8/10.

I LOVED to watch Matt Smith, and got me retardedly excited to watch every new episode.
The plots were still good, but Matt Smith added more hype to every episode, rather than to look at a very unattractive very old man.
Matt Smith also had an amazing energy, which all other of the new doctors had, but Capaldi completely lacks, it just sounds bad whenever he talks and tries to be "energetic" when he comes up with a new scheme.
Also, it's creepy, to have a pretty and young Clara, with a man 50 years older than her.
