I have been thinking about Harry Potter lately and it seems that wizards are actually much less powerful than Humans. A Human army could easily destroy a wizard army. An ICBM could instantlly obliterate the Ministry of Magic, Hogwarts, Diagon Alley, and all the other important wizard locations. So why does Harry not just go to get the help of the American Military? At the very least he could put on his invisibility cloak and hijack a nuclear bomber. Also, why do wizards not carry guns? If I had a sniper rifle I am pretty confident I could kill voldemort. I could just hide in a grassy knoll 300 yards away and blow his head off.

If muggles became a concern, Voldemort would just enact a permanent shield against projectiles, like he used around Nagini near the end of the series. A normal wizard could probably fend guns off once they knew what they were facing, and voldemort figures out crazy shit like broomless flight. A standard protego charm would block a gunshot and they have hats and things that keep that keep the charm up constantly. And if you did get the jump on old voldy then his horcruxes would just turn him back into a ghost and then he would resurrect himself again. He has multiple kinds of mind control, the ability to access the memories of anyone he meets, perfect invisibility, shit like dementors that could chase you down across a stadium night or day and don't give a fuck about your weapons. You kill his followers, he finds new ones. He could take centuries to do it if he wanted to. Even normal wizards live extremely long lives. Humans would never get the chance to fight wizards on any kind of a level playing field. It's like saying a bear could beat you if you walked into the forest by yourself with no gun, knife, car, bear traps or mace. Sure the bear would win. But that's not gonna happen unless you're retarded.

Probably because Harry Potter was easily one of the dullest franchise in the history of movie franchises. Each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the series’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.
Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody?just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for her books. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.

The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "stretched his legs."
I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Rowling's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading Harry Potter at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read Stephen King." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "Harry Potter" you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King.
