How favorable history will view this film will be 100% connected with how good the future films are.

The problem is instead of making a satisfying entry into a franchise that stands on its own merits (ie Fellowship of the Ring), we got a movie that was butchered to make it connected with future movies, wasting screen time away from the premise to set up future movies they will force you to see because, likewise, the individual movies will all connect with Justice League and if you haven't seen Aquaman you are going to miss half the plot somehow because you just wont know the backstory.

This is why Marvel is winning. They know how to set up an individual movie. All their movies are standalone. You get a satisfying beginning, middle and end.

BvS is just a poorly executed beginning

Bullshit. Marvel stopped doing that after Phase 1 with every movie being an extended trailer for the next. The only exception was Guardians of the Galaxy, and that mostly due to it being so far removed (location-wise) from the Avengers.

I can see that civil war was a much better made film despite this I was far more entertained by bvs... Does that mean I'm a DCuck guys?
>>
>>69057167
The best part is when people see the AMAZING 10/10 movies in the future, they'll say stuff this this and this are the best and BvS is the worst. SKIP BVS and they're good movies.
>>
>>69057167
I haven't even seen BvS, but I've seen the avengers movies and they literally have the same plot going in them. marvel movies are generic and boring, with shit wit comments when it's entirely unnecessary and practically improbable.

I fucking love comic books, but I can't stand movies made after them.

Outside of Watchmen, this might just be the single most comic-book-esque comics movie ever made. Ang Lee's Hulk deserves a mention, too.
>>
>>69058468
I've probably read more comics from both companies than you even know exist.
>>
>>69058510
They just don't seem to translate right to me. I have to agree with Watchmen, it's visuals were quite stunning and it has some amazing performances.
>>
>>69058598
If you're a fan of comics and aren't disagreeable to seeing the Batman and Superman at very different places in their respective careers, it's very much worth a watch,

Also, prepare yourself for a villain whose ultimate plan isn't spelled out for you. Go into it thinking Ozymandias and you won't be far off-base. I won't spoil it for you. I refuse.
>>
All memes aside
I am 99% sure Disney bribed critics for The Force Awakens. There is no way anyone watches that movie and thinks it's acceptable
>>
>>69058769
It's funny. It's somewhat entertaining, but just feels so fucking soulless. I like Abram's re-imagining of Star Trek, but I'm really disappointed with his work on TFA.
>>
>>69058598
Ozymandias is the mastermind that tricks blueDude into getting the blame for the nuclear explosions

Perhaps I phrased it wrong. What I meant to say was none of the Marvel Phase 2 films, except GotG, were strong enough individually compared to the films from Phase 1. Basically, I felt like the character development was lacking and there was too much reliance on the events/characters from the other films to drive the plot forward.

At least that's how it felt to me.

Lex's plan seemed pretty straightforward to me: manipulate Batman/Superman into killing each other because of his inferiority complex. And if that fails summon someone/something that can finish the job (Doomsday/Darkseid).
>>
>>69059079
You would be surprised at the number of people who failed to grasp this.

They actually make it a point of criticism
>>
>>69058974
That was almost twenty years ago, child. Some of us do grow up. My comics lore spans the comics I inherited from my dad that covered the 60 and part of the 70s, where I learned to read listening to my dad read them while I looked at the pictures. Then I became a collector through the 80s and 90s before dropping them in the early 00s when I started a family.

And now my 5 year-old son is learning to read that same way.
>>
>>69057167
>This is why Marvel is winning. They know how to set up an individual movie. All their movies are standalone. You get a satisfying beginning, middle and end.

Proof against this is literally in theatres right now.
>>
>>69059079
>>69059125

What if Ozy from the comics had actually had a real-life alien he could present as a threat to humanity? What if that same alien was annoyingly refusing to become an unambiguous threat?

Start from there and see where that premise takes you.
>>
>>69059125
I suppose Lex's relationship with Darkseid is left kind of ambiguous but the rest of his plan is literally spelled out on screen (the rooftop conversation), not to mention it's classic Luthor (he's envious of Superman's power). I'm not sure how much more obvious people need it be.
>>
>>69055466
much better, in fact

This movie is just like Strarship Troopers. Fine movie with a bad but unique director aimed to the great public but butchered by critics. I fucking love Starship Troopers and I think BvS will be remembered just the same

I'm still trying to decide whether Verhoeven understood that Heinlein didn't write that as a satire. Not saying he's not free to repackage it however he wants, just curious, that's all.

Lex has no motivation, nothing explained, Superman is boring, they get together to fight the CG monster at the end, what a joke, then they kill Superman to make you feel like the CG monster battle had some consequences and the rising dirt is a signal for complete idiots that Superman will be back alive again for Justice League movie

Yes it does? It's literally his motivation in all the Superman comics and movies (minus Elseworlds/Alternate Universes).

Quite the opposite, in fact. He did something new - retold Superman's origin and early career through the lens of a "First Contact" scenario. Not liking that is an understandable opinion. Denying it's what he's doing isn't.
>>
>>69062845
That's Luthor's motivation in all the comics.

Even silver age where he blamed Superboy for his baldness. In luthor's mind superman did it out of jealousy of his genius. Though it was really he felt inferior and wanted to prove to himself (and the world) that he's the true super man
>>
>>69063730
Greed, envy, jealousy, pride - always at the heart of Luthor's character, regardless of incarnation. I like his goal is subtly implied by his party.

Bear in mind, that's a party he threw for himself, to honor how great a guy he is.

Putting them after the credits doesn't mess with the pacing of the movie.

As-is, we get the actual plot grinded to a screeching halt while Wonder Woman clicks on some links on a computer and pretends she knows how to emote for 10 minutes before suddenly jumping back to the plot.
>>
>>69064094
I wasn't a fan of where they fell in the editing, but I didn't mind them being present within the body of the film itself, especially considering they're one of the biggest clues to what Lex was actually planning.

>>
>>69065304
Pacing, character development and motivations, editing affects them all or at least it can. I'm looking forward to the extended scenes and the director's cut to see what it does to the overall feel and impact of the film.
>>
Better than TFA and Civil War. BvS was good. It has it's issues, but it's enjoyable at least.
>>
>>69065304
Such as?
>>
>>69065990
Not him, but the pacing is a bit rushed, and the Lex Luthor casting was less than stellar. I get why they did it though, since the usual Lex wouldn't have fit the part needed for the role. If he's meant to be Alexander, then it's a bit better.

It's a little too crammed, and I feel like they wasted the Doomsday plot too early. This film shoulda been split in two, or MoS shoulda gotten a sequel before this, with the Doomsday plot being it's own film.

It's still a decent film though, MILES better than Civil War desu.
