I know that we're all there to see Godzilla, but you can't truly convey his size and power on the screen without focusing on the human perspective for comparison. A bunch of scenes of Godzilla stomping around and fighting other monsters would be cool, but it wouldn't make you feel what being in the shadow of such an immense being would be like.

I heard somewhere (maybe the /Film podcast) that they had to kill him off at that point because his arc was done and from that point on, if he stayed with the military people he became redundant with all their own experts and if he followed Kickass then a strange father-son action thing ensued that didn't quite worked out.
