I don't get why the non-Maquis crew were so scared and worried about being stranded in deep space. Did they only sign up for weekends?

I can see you just want to bump the thread, this episode is one they got right. A quantum reality has infinite number of causal reactions. Sending them back would have an effect on the reality just by them being there.

But that's not the issue, they wanted to get back to their family and friends. With double it is an issue. It creates a reality they don't want to go back to and could pollute the timeline if they tried returning to their former lives.

I'm sorry but the episode had absolutely no flaws from the standpoint.

>He either stays or tries to go back
>Has to recreate everything in the cabin as he's going through the anomaly
>Oh, and for some reason I was right in the middle of beaming off the ship at the exact time I entered this thing

Why not make it something less ridiculous? The show went out of it's way to do that for the same of "tense ending" but in the end it all seems laughably unbelievable within an already science fiction world.

i think it was more for a bit more varied character background. they're the rednecks of the crew.... it was a reason for added tension, like Belana being a 'hothead' all the time. they didn't have the same discipline. it meant something for the first season or so, and you got the mike tyson face tattoos guy which was something new for the aesthetics of star trek.

but the double agent girl, the jem'hadar that has jakotes baby later on was good, that was part of marqui.

>>
>>69049220
fun fact: The Maquis was created especially for Voyager. There are only two earlier appearances of them, one in TNG and one in a DS9 two-parter, both in the year before Voyager aired. These episodes were only made to make the audience think of the Maquis as a natural element of the Trek universe and not as a one-off freak plot-device gimmick for the new series.
The Maquis was actually created to add internal conflict that TNG lacked but without the need to have one species relegated to that cause. The inspiration were the defiant native American settlers from a TNG episode. And that's why Chakotay is an Indian. But later he had no connection to these settlers and was simply from Earth but with native American background.

Then Janeway would have been in on it and would have made more efforts to secure alliances and a fleet instead of just "maximum warp" towards earth.
>>
So, was Voyager pulled into the Delta Quadrant, as Captain Janeway claims, or was it all a part of the proposed Federation/Caretaker/Kazon alliance to keep inconsistent writing and dumb plots quarantined in a single quadrant?
>>
>>69057306

OP's just making conversation. The episode clearly determines that she was having some sort of delusional issue that the Doctor later explains.

But the Caretaker episode could've been a really good pilot up until the end when we realize that Janeway's logic for not using the array is partly idiotic, at least when it came to the Ocampa because they were all going to die anyways after the energy left by the Caretaker ran out in five years. This is something never brought up again by the crew.

>mfw I was a teenager living in Chicago when the big shitstorm came out about her divorced husband Jack Ryan forcing her to do sex acts in public.
>>
>>69057387
Yes, I am aware. I've seen that episode. I was making a joke in the spirit of Seven's wild allegations. Probably should've quoted OP and posted a picture of Jeri Ryan, but meh.

The fact that the Ocampa will die off in five years is a big factor, bit it never should've been the prime motivator for Janeway to destroy the array. The logic should've been "this technology is insanely powerful, and these jokers in bad rasa wigs should never have access to it... but maybe we take some pieces with us..."or maybe even just have the array not work at all without the Caretaker. It didn't need to be blown up, necessarily.

The Ocampa should've really been an afterthought at best.
>>
>>69057460
I never heard about this at the time (was also a teenager). Is that seriously what happened to her?
>>
>>69057628
Yyyyyyyyup. Was all over the goddamn news. Illinois (well, it's Chicago. Everything that happens in that state is Chicago) has some of the most brutal, byzantine politics in America. Here's how it went down; he (Jack Ryan) took her out to a bunch of swingers clubs and he was a huge cuck so he wanted to get off with her fucking other dudes in the club.

She said "no, fuck that" after what I'm assuming as at least a brief dalliance with the idea, and divorced his ass. The documents were sealed up, but when Jack Ryan ran for senator they unsealed them and spilled his dirty ass laundry everywhere.

Guess who won the senate seat? A little nappy headed fucker named Barrack Obama.

So you see anon, all actions have consequences :D:D:D

You've never seen the 'Seven of Nine is responsible for the Obama presidency' pic? I don't have it saved but it gets posted every once in a while
>>
>>69057584

In the end, I can just say that the writers had MONTHS to come up with a good story for a well funded pilot that was recast more than once (at least with the main actor) and they couldn't even clean up the ending a little bit.

It really was as if they were lacking what most writers should innately have and that is to see how one action affects the other along the storyline, why the characters do what they do, etc.

Voyager is the only Trek series that really falls apart on repeat viewings because the flaws are so terribly obvious where as the newness of the series the first time around allows you to relegate the facts to the what becomes of the story.

>>
>>69057954

He was already in Illinois Congress so he would have found another open seat. Though timing is everything in politics because he gave the 04' opening to democratic convention. So if he came into senate later he might have missed his chance but who knows.

>>69058048
Yeah, but DC had some pretty awesome scandals too like the mayor going to prison for crack and hookers and getting re-elected. Wore an African Dashiki around and basically fucked shit up.

But yeah it's always been a running joke in Chicago since before the fire burnt it all down, even memeing the phrase Chicago Politics. It's an awesome place though but it's basically Gotham City with niggers.
>>
>>69058134

>>
>>69057964
There is a certain lack of continuity in Voyager that I dislike. Only upswing is that you can watch the series in almost any order (as long as you keep the Kes years and the Seven years separate).

While I think the Kazon were kind of a crap bad guy race, it's not like that's a new thing. The Ferengi were that in season 1 of TNG. But it's like they wrote themselves into a corner with the Kazon, and never did the exploration of the culture like was fine with the Ferengi (partly because they wrote Kazon so blandly that they were convinced there was no potential there). And yeah, they would've had to move beyond their space eventually, but a better exploration of the Traeb, a more fleshed out backstory, and better understanding of the street gangs that served as the basis for the Kazon would've been a big help to the early series, and probably would've set the bar for the rest of the show much higher.

>Sisko, on the other hand, was a raving lunatic when it came to the Maquis and, on a mission of insanity, chased down Eddington and poisoned an entire M-class planet's atmosphere (with people still on it) all over "the uniform".

Yeah, I'm not really sure who thought that would be in character for a Starfleet officer.

Pretty much the main ones you've got listed, since there are some decent threads here and there other than the massive pile of feces that usually builds up.

So that'd be like a six episode mini-series because O'Brien wouldn't fuck around and would get home in time to see his third pure asian child that is totally his and not one of the Asian members of starfleet?

Why did they make Voyager about a ship too far away from federation space to get any backup/supplies and then not do anything with it?
>>
>>69070181
Pretty much is m8. The plain and simple though is that those aren't his kids.
>>
>>69070204
because UPN wanted it as their flagship show and executives started meddling

Because it's voyager.
>>
>>69057194
Well, considering the Dominion was just hanging out in the Gamma waiting for the right century to fuck the Alpha Quadrant, the logical thing to do would be to get a crew out to the Delta to see what (aside the Borg) might also want a slice of Federation pie.
The only mistake they made? Sending Voyager. They could have at least given Janeway a competent crew.

This is a very good post.
Voyager is not capitalized (relegating it to just any other object that would take voyages), which is similar to how the producers and writers treated it.
And "Because" of that's what "it's / it is" the cited post's question has all of it's answers in a short, laconic sense because of how much can be written in response to the question.
