That's the feeling it's supposed to instill. The original story was based around the British getting a taste of colonialism from the other end, and the 2005 version takes that theme and shifts it towards the present of asymmetrical warfare, where people on the other side of the world get their homes blown up but we don't really care because we feel so disconnected to that.
