that's part of the literal interpretation, but I like rob agers theory that the monolith represents the cinema screen, and the characters are realizing they are in a film themselves. its an illustration about the mysteries of human consciousness and the next step in human evolution. to me personally the film gives the impression that what you're watching isn't real its fake. Of course it is fake, it's just a movie after all, and that's the whole point I guess. it just really bizarre and make me feel unsettled like somethings not right

i have a real hard on for that type of humour. it's one step below absurdist, very gaudy, very silly. i also love slapstick. i think a very well done slapstick movie will almost always be funnier than a very well done challenging comedy. that's just the way my brain works my man.
i even like stupid shit like naked gun. it just appeals to me. the jokes are often flat, who cares. i laugh anyway.
it's not the same with action, drama, anything really. if its poorly made i can't stand it. it doesn't speak to me. but with laughter it's a whole different story. it's all about letting go, that includes letting go of my preconcieved notions.
