After ROTK there was just no way for Jackson to be able to impress the audience with the big battle.

Plus the studio screwing up the whole thing to force three movies whent here should have only been two required a whole lot of fluff not int he books to be added to pad it out.

Freeman should've had more screentime imo

Jackson proved to be as problematic as Lucas when given full creative authority. Thank fuck people reeled him in with the LotR trilogy, otherwise we'd have Aragorn fighting fucking Sauron in RotK.

Also, incredibly rushed production, filming battle scenes without even storyboarding or planning in advance. I imagine they had at least 5 more hours of that fucking stupid CGI battle content.
