I agree that the original Evil Dead is the best film in the franchise, and I am happy that you share my opinion that it is superior to the others.
Having said that, I also don't hate the other installments. I find them to be serviceable, working on different levels. And so I disagree with your implication that the original Evil Dead is the only good film (movie) in the franchise, per the OP.

This is an acceptable answer.
Although Reloaded is notable for a great car chase with multiple (plot-actor) angles, it's just an action flick with a cringey first-act, complete with cave/"warehouse" party. If it had not been made, nothing of value would have been lost (apart from that chase. good chase, that). But one good chase/redeeming quality does not a good movie make.

I can see why people like the others but they have simply never done anything for me. Evil Dead 2 never feels either funny or scary, and while I like Bruce Campbell he is just not fun to watch in that one. Army of Darkness has some cool effects but I think the whole thing is just a little too stupid for me to enjoy. The remake, on the other hand, started out smart with the idea to make her an addict so no one would listen to her when shit started happening, but it quickly through all that out the window and became one of the most embarrassingly bad films I have ever seen.
Trust me, I wish I could appreciate the other films as much as most people seem to, and I've tried and tried, but I just can't get into them at all.

I think there's a generational thing where once a sacred cow has been around for about 25-30 years, young contrarians feel an instinctive obligation to push back on it, often wrongly. This started happening circa ten years ago on /mu/ with respect to The Beatles, and it's happening on /tv/ now with respect to Aliens. Both criticisms are mistaken.

That's dumb. Aliens is video game-y in the sense that instead of spoopy alien terrorizing EVERYBODY, there are a million aliens, perfect killing machines, and a machine gun is enough to kill them all. The alien turned from a scary-ass motherfucker into a zergling.
The video game got the spirit of the alien right, in that it's fucking scary as fuck and you'd rather not encounter it.
That being said, Aliens isn't bad at all. It's a great action flick. It's just a shame that it devalued the alien itself in the process.
