LOTR was pretty shitty overall tho. the only one that had any weight to it was fellowship, it did an ok job creating the atmosphere of middle earth, the other 2 parts were essentially buddy action movie teir.

ROTK's kind of an odd movie, in that it had easily some of the best and worst moments in the whole trilogy. I think the bad parts of ROTK get kind of overplayed because of how much they stick out in comparison to the rest of the trilogy, because looking past Legolas, Gimli, and Ghosts the movie's fucking solid.

LotR is perfect because it's so honest, unassuming quaint and pure. There is no cynicism or ironic quips or even sarcasm because the characters are so humble in their origins they wouldn't even know how to communicate like that. Essentialism is basically written into every aspect of life, the different races are regimented and hierarchical with their own societies. The problems they endure, greed, pride and the wickedness of men are eternal and universal. It is a holistic tale about courage, friendship and staying true to your origins. It is almost literally perfect in every way.
