The Black side character is completly pointless and does nothing. The fact that the entire movie led up to a confrontation between Del Toro, a character deliberately kept in mystery, and people we never met means there's nothing to give a shit about. The last shot of "That cop had a family!" is pretty embarassing. The main character is rendered completly useless and pointless. The entire arc, she realises that there's a bunch of bullshit in the way, is obvious from the start and has no emotional complexity whatsoever. "Hey Emily Blunt some people are arseheads", oh nice, how bloody profound of you movie.
