What does /tv/ think about Pirates of the Caribbean?
>>
>>68896736
Loved the First one
2nd and 3rd were Ok
4th was Shit...
>>
1st is kino.

rest are shit.
>>
First one was ok, the sequels where just johnny depp making weird gestures for 90 minutes a piece.
>>
>>68896736
Good trilogy.
Don't know how the fuck the 4th turned out to be so damn forgettable.
>>
>>68896812
Pretty much this.

The first one is one of my favorite movies. I get a boner for Kiera Knightly. I'm oddly attracted to her neck bones
>>
a real popcorn flick tbhfamalam
>>
>>68896963
Read the book it was based off of, it's great.
>>
First was GOAT pirate movie
2nd had some pacing problems but still some great scenes, particularly with Davey Jones
3rd was a trainwreck, tried to do way too much, didn't even feel like a true "pirate movie" anymore
4th tried to go back to series roots, but was generally forgettable and not nearly as fun
>>
Take Jack Sparrow out of it and you have some of the most cliche love story shit ever
>>
First is great. Second is pretty good. I personally really like the third other than that fucking boring start in Singapore, the entire Davy Jones' Locker sequence is great.
Fourth is shit. It had a bigger budget than 2 & 3 combined and somehow managed to look much worse.
Oh, and Pirates 2 & 3 still has the best CGI to date.
>>
>>68897098
This basically
though 4 is my second favourite
1>4>2>3
>>
>>68897171
couldn't even finish 4.
>>
>>68897222
>thinks he can critique a film he didn't even finish
Welcome to nu-/tv/
>>
>>68897253
4 was legitimately god-damn awful
>>
>>68897192
http://www.amazon.com/Stranger-Tides-Tim-Powers/dp/006209453X

Book is full of crazy island voodoo magic, the movie was barely related and doesn't hold a candle.
>>
>>68896887
The third is objectively better than the second though
>>
>>68897253
It was so shit I couldn't even finish it. There's your critique.
>>
What are some other adventure based movies like PotC?
>>
>>68897671
The Lone Ranger
it's only bad if you've seen the searchers
>>
>>68897725
Why did everyone shit on that movie?
>>
>>68898023
because it's horribly derivative and badly paced
this is what the answer should be. the truth is because it came out after PoTC3 and people were tired of Depp's whole shstick by this point and wanted to seem cool by shitting on a random blockbuster
the film is very comfy though. and the final chase with william tell in the background is goat
>>
>>68898023
It was a blatant attempt at Pirates of the Caribbean in another setting, when people just want more good PotC movies.
>>
>>68896736
Liked the first one very much, but i was always a little put off by how similar Depp's performance was to his portrait of Hunter S. Thompson.

The other one's where more of the same, I thought one movie was enough frankly.
>>
>>68896736
When's the next one coming out?
>>
>>68899043
Next year
>>
2 and 3 could have been great but they were so bloated and had some horrible decisions like the entire crab goddess plot line.
>>
I hope the next one has a hot new pirate love interest who wears a corset and high heel boots

Why is it the only notable pirate film series in recent years?

Swashbuckler/pirate films used to be a whole genre, on par with capeshit.

Now there are literally none.
>>
>>68896736
The first one's a fun disney movie, the sequels get progressively less fun. Of course, this is just one Anon's humble O.

watch more movies
>>
>>68899200
I approve of your humble O, Anon, but what is less fun about the later ones?

It's not like they get too serious or dark or anything. If anything they do too much fantasy stuff which makes them less interesting.
>>
First is GOAT, other two are enjoyable flicks, forth is shit

So when I was a kid, my parents took me to Disney World and my brother and I rode the Pirates of the Caribbean ride literally 11 times in a row. We loved it. When the movie came out many years later, I enjoyed the fact that they basically tried to adapt a disney theme park ride into a movie, and somehow made it work. The sequels are just stretching the idea out into nonsense. They start adding in all that ridiculous mythology and sillines and it just kind of lost the point for me.

I enjoyed them all, even the 4th one but yeah it was the weakest.

They are pretty funny and I really like the soundtracks. Captain Barbossa is probably my favourite character im glad he made it back for the 4th.

Picture is another pirate movie I kind of like with a droll style that few people liked.
>>
I'm gonna watch the trilogy again and maybe play Black Flag.

Fuck, how long until the next black Sails season starts?
>>
Pure popcorn kino, i.e. kino that embodies certain characteristics of a flick.
>>
Solid, entertaining films. I'd forgotten how good they were until I started rewatching them recently.

Haven't seen the 4th, but the third was getting a bit ridiculous.

I wish we had more pirates in cinema but they simultaneously resurrected and killed the genre. Smugglers would be good too.
>>
>>68901396
if you can stand older films then the three and four musketeers with michael york and albert finney etc is about the best they ever did of this sort of period fighting imo

if you can stand subtitles brotherhood of the wolf has a similar feel to it
>>
The first one was phenomenal. Great action and fun with characters interacting as they crossed paths from ships to land and back again.

The sequels just run into a world of problems. The fantasy in the original was simple yet thought provoking. Undead pirates that couldn't be killed nor could they live. Cool.

The sequels just had too much weird shit you couldn't quite grasp. The sea captian and his crew are made of sea creatures and naval equipment because they're undead as well but they can control the kraken that will hunt Jack Sparrow who will use the heart and the aid of Calypso to say fuck you to Davy Jones. Say what? Keep it simple.
>>
>>68901280
So....1 was flickino? Is flickino a valid label?

while it's not a movie, I highly recommend Black Sails.

any anon here worth his salt will stomp his peg leg in approval of this being the best show currently airing. Season 1 is slow, but 2 and 3 are incredible.

Replacing Gore Verbinski was a mistake.

Jesus black sails is so fucking awesome. How come no one on /tv/ likes that show? It is pretty great
>>
>>68901665
The main character in black sails is charming as fuck. For some reason i wish i had a dad like him, can't explain it. Or maybe an older brother? I dunno.

>>
>>68902216
He homosex
>>
>>68902870
I felt like that came out of fucking nowhere with the homo shit. I am usually not even bothered by homo stuff in movies or tv, but what the fuck.

There were no indicators he was gonna be a faggot whatsoever in my opinion. I felt like it was shoehorned in for some reason. Almost like the writers couldn't come up with why he did what he did, and just were like, "what if he was buttfucking the dude?".
>>
>>68902104
Because it's Starz and not HBO

If it was an HBO show you bet your ass people would be raving over it.

Davy Jones alone takes 2 ahead of 1. Objectively the best character in the series.

2 > 1 > 4 > 3

Looking forward to the next one.

space pirate captain harlock was decent but strangely it didn't get much publicity
>>
4 was held back by the God awful preacher and mermaid plot and penny Cruz. All I wanted was Jack and Gibbs doing pirate things, not two half baked love plots clogging shit up.
>>
>>68903876
No.

The second movie was just thin plot strung between action sequences.

Black Pearl actually had a beginning, middle, and end.

haha it's a thinly-veiled penis joke
epic, simply epic
>>
>>68896736

Black Pearl was kino
Dead Man's Chest and At World's End were movies
On Stranger Tides was a flick
Dead Men Tell No Tales is probably going to be a joint

basically, the premise has gotten stretched thin. But it started out as fun.

When I saw the second one in theaters everybody started booing at the end. I have no idea why, probably because Jack Sparrow "died"
