>"Guys remember that really old movie The Empire strike back!"

Do Disney seriously think this is how teenagers speak?
>>
>>68893400
No way does he actually say that.
>>
>>68893479
yes lel
>>
>>68893479
Yes, he does.

He says it as he's about to Swing around Giant Man repeatedly in order to wrap his legs up in webbing.
>>
>>68893400
He should have been all 'hashtag twerking hashtag shit is cash sharing this on instagram you got kik much memes epic bro' instead right?

Seeing as that's how teenagers actually talk.
>>
>>68893547
Jesus this better be a joke. I'm gonna hide this thread now so I don't see spoilers.
>>
>>68893400
>Did you just trow a ginormous frisbee at me? Wtf. I'm a spider not a dog.
>>
>>68893400
That line really made me cringe. Although, to be fair, my sister in high school had no idea The Force Awakens was a sequel to anything or that it was part of a new trilogy. Many kids that age probably really dont give a shit about star wars. That said, if you did know what it was, you wouldnt refer to it as "that old movie" as if people dont know what star wars is.
>>
>>68893606
Just confirmed he actually does indeed say that.

>>
>>68893725
that would literally be a better joke than the ebin star wars reference
>>
>>68893400
This version of Spidey was only old enough to see episode 3 in theaters. None of his friends or peers talk about it, it came out in the 70s. Of course he would call it an old movie.
>>
>>68893833
>Of course he would call it an old movie.

He could've just said "Guys, remember Empire Strikes Back?"
>>
>>68893767
TV are 15 year olds who never go outside
>>
>>68893606
He says that indeed and Rhodes say "Jesus, Tony, how old is this guy?"

Why? To spare your feelings about an old Sci fi movie?
>>

that's not how this sort of thing works.

I dunno, Dan "Cunny Master" Schneider. You tell us.
>>

To make the dialogue more believable.

No, but that's because real teenagers aren't nearly that eloquent.
>>
>>68893400
Whats wrong with that though?
>>
>>68894312
It was, for those who got the joke.
Im sadly gonna have to explain that the joke wasn't talking about the movie, the joke was talking about the movie like a retard.

Explain that then. Because it wasn't funny nor did it make any fucking sense in the context of the scene.

>>
The Empire Strikes Back is 36 years old.

It'd be like if Spiderman said "You remember that old movie Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" in 2002.

You still don't call something just an old movie when it's something huge and generation defining like Star Wars. That's like asking, "Hey guys, did you ever hear about that old war called World War II?"
>>
>ITT: oldfags who can't deal with the ceaseless onslaught of time

Fuck, Im pushing thirty myself and even I got the joke.
>>
>>68894616
no-one would know whatever the fuck that is in 2002 so if you're talking to somebody about it, sure give them some context

in the case of modern classics that everyone has seen, 'that old movie ______' is weird and unnecessary

>hey do that impression from that old mafia movie, The Godfather © 1972
>>
>>68894613
Nigga, I know teenage boys who went to see TFA as their first Star Wars movie seen in theatres and I know they wouldn't call Empire "just another old movie."
>>
CGI teenager Tony Stark was the worst.
>>
>>68893400
There's people swinging around on wdbs and people flying but thats where the belief is suspended for you.
How bad is your autism?
It is a old movie by teens standards.

>>

>Rhoads says "Jesus, Tony. How old is this guy?"

This makes it okay actually. Because the difference is if nobody responded to that comment, then it would basically be Andrew Garfield-tier.

Also, this kid is 15 years old I suppose. I'm 27 and I'm almost grasping at how young that is.

I think that's from a TV promo.

AFAIK, there's only a long scene leaked (the airport one). I ain't watching shit, have to wait until next week because of exams.
>>
The only kinds of people who would call a Star Wars movie an "old movie" are people who don't have an interest in movies in the first place. You don't treat classic, genre defining pieces of media that EVERYONE knows about the same as some random summer flick.

Okay let's not act like Holland isn't the greatest actor of our generation. The things he's been involved in have been complete works of art. The Impossible, Locke, hell even In the Heart of the Sea was made bearable thanks to his acting chops. Why anyone would think his performances are under 9/10 is beyond me. It's probably because they can't tell a good movie if it sucked them in the dick. Tom Holland is also a very competent dancer probably the most competent i've ever seen. Much greater than any Usher, Layton Williams, or Bieber could ever hope to be. He puts even Michael Jackson to shame with his rhythmic prowess. Holland as Spider-Man is the only sensible choice for anyone willing to helm the production of such an extraordinary and amobitious piece of art. Tom Holland is basically the gold-standard for anything hollywoow would ever hope to make from this point onward. "Holland sucks" is not only an outright false rhetoric, but a malicious form of slander and libel as literally nothing could even be presented as an inkling of evidence. So you nerds can take your little arguments about quips and shove them up your sphincters because that's the only possible way you will ever get to feel another organism dabble in your disgusting, sore infested version of butt-play. I will look back on this thread when Holland is met with critical acclaim from ACTUAL critics and look straight into the screen with enough intensity that i see each and every one of your eyes and say "You have a metal arm? That's awesome!"
And yes i did wait for a trailer to come on my television to post this.

The whole joke is that he's too young and/or naive to realize how big The Empire Strikes back was, and it works perfectly fine.

Bear in mind that a person who is 15 today was born two years after The Phantom Menace.
>>
>>68894800
I can see a young teenager that doesn't know much of the world saying something like that.
>>
>>68893400
The point of this line is for the characters to be shocked at how young this kid is. And it plays into him wrapping up Antman's legs with webs like ESB
>>
>>68896417
>Bear in mind that a person who is 15 today was born two years after The Phantom Menace.

Holy shit
>>
>>68893400
The quip is fine in and of itself, the problem is Marvel decided to build a quip about Spider-man's age into the first quip, so instead of having him say, "Hey, remember that scene in Empire Strikes Back" (a perfectly natural sounding line), he say's "hey, remember that REALLY OLD MOVIE the Empire Strikes Back" which sounds clunky and unnatural. Marvel needs to learn that not EVERYTHING has to be a goddamn quip.
>>
>>68896649
>Marvel needs to learn that not EVERYTHING has to be a goddamn quip.

Apart from Spiderman, Antman and Hawkeye (which makes sense, and all 3 of whom are small cameos), there's hardly any quips in the movie.

It's a way more serious tone than Whedon Avengers. Especially Cap
>>
>>68896220
>tfw I wanted to see Gwyneth paltrow in the rescue suit
is there still a chance?
>>
>>68896516
Spider-man's age could have easily been conveyed through his actions as opposed to an unnatural line of dialogue. Show don't tell. Film-making 101.
>>
>>68896768
>Spider-man's age could have easily been conveyed through his actions as opposed to an unnatural line of dialogue

They do exactly that too, he's very inexperienced in fighting, and obviously doesn't really understand the situation Stark has got him involved in.

He ends up getting hurt, and Tony feels bad and tells him to go home. It was pretty reprehensible from Tony the entire thing really, dragging a 15 year old kid across the world to fight for something he didn't really get, then threatening to reveal his identity if he didn't follow his orders
>>
>>68894613
That's not the point. Everyone knows about the Empire Strikes Back. Or at least I thought so. Prefacing it with "that really old movie" makes it sound like it's some antiquated film no one cares about.
>>
>>68896733
doesn't she have super powers now?
>>
>>68896865
Then the joke-killing line of dialogue in question is that much more redundant.
>>
>>68896908
she couldn't support it, so tony fixed her
>>
>>68896941
It made people laugh in the cinema I was in, so it's not that redundant
>>
>>68896941
You haven't actually seen the fucking movie yet you're complaining?

The line works because it shows how naive Spider Man is. It's like a foreigner arriving in Japan and saying "Remember that old cartoon, Gundam?".

Of course they have, and he doesn't even realize how out of touch he is with everyone else he's speaking to.
>>

>>
>>68900358
I honestly don't remember the exact phrasing, but I think it was among those lines. In any case, if it wasn't, then yeah, it should have been that way.

Not "have you heard" though, since just hearing about ESB wouldn't help knowing hot they took down the AT-ATs. It should have been among the lines of "did anyone of you ever see that old movie..."

Spiderman: "Guy, you ever see that really old movie The Empire Strikes back?"
Rhodes: "Jesus Tony how old is this guy?"
Tony: "I don't know I didn't carbon date him, he's on the young side"
