>dat opening sniper scene
>dat tom cruise
>dat ever expanding cleavage
>dat comedy with townies
>dat 10/10 bathroom fight
>dat final confrontation
Why did no one like this movie ? Just because it's cool to hate tom?
>>68891429
Was it hated? I thought no one just went to see it.
>>68891429
I liked it a lot. I think the criticism came from book readers who were expecting a 6'5" behoemoth to play Jack.
>>68891429
Can't wait for the sequel
>>68891429
>Reacher is described as being 6 feet 5 inches (1.96 m) tall, weighing 210-250 (95-113 kg) pounds and having a 50-inch chest;.[10][12] In Never Go Back, he was physically described as having "a six-pack like a cobbled city street, a chest like a suit of NFL armor, biceps like basketballs, and subcutaneous fat like a Kleenex tissue."[32] In his youth, his physical appearance was described as that of a 'bulked-up greyhound'.[43] He also reveals that his size is purely genetic; he states in Persuader[44] and Never Go Back[32] that he is not much of an exercise enthusiast.
>cast Tom Cruise
>>68891520
>sequel without MacQuarrie directing
I'm a little worried. None of his realistic grit and no based Joe Kraemer score.
>>68891573
> He also reveals that his size is purely genetic; he states in Persuader[44] and Never Go Back[32] that he is not much of an exercise enthusiast.
i laughed out loud what the fuck
>>68891573
Is that supposed to be a serious description? That sounds like the proportions a 6 year old would draw
>>68891573
Didnt know the author wrote the books when he was a child, this sounds fucking stupid
>>68891573
>this writing
>>68891573
Literally "dank OC do not steal"
>>68891573
Sounds like a Rob Liefeld drawing.
>>68891573
This is men's adventure novels. Pure pulp. I don't think they even make them anymore.
>>68891573
you can pretty much see the boner the author had while writing this shit
>>68891573
>people are literally upset he's played by based cruise and doesn't look like this
>>68891839
Brock Lesnar could have played him
>>68891607
>implying Edward Zwick isn't a good replacement
>>68892026
He's a solid director, don't get me wrong.
But I'm gonna miss that MacQuarrie style.
i liked it but im not familiar with the source material
>>68892156
The source material is trash, don't bother with it.
>>68891573
How could someone like that as the hero?
>"Hey guys I never work out and eat fries and pizza for breakfast lunch and dinner, look at my six pack and ripped arms and chest all thanks just to genetics but remember Rey from SW8 is the Mary Sue"
>>68893556
because its pulp fiction
>>68891429
>Just because it's cool to hate tom?
It isn't cool to hate him, he's just a fucking lunatic who literally worships SciFi aliens and is one of the most active members of a world-famous cult.
That being said, I find it pretty hard not to legitimately love Tom Cruise. He's enthusiastic, he's zany as fuck, he's a pretty amazing actor and he has no fear (mountain climbing, the Dubai thing etc). He seems like a crazy bastard IRL and often comes across as either a dick or batshit insane in interviews but I bet he'd be a right laugh to hang out with.
>>68891913
Or the werewolf motherfucker from True Blood who's built like a fucking oak tree.
>can't be arsed to find pic
>>68893556
Because, unlike women, men don't get all butthurt when a protagonist is fitter and tougher than the person reading. That's the very basis of action heroes, is it not?
>>68891607
What's he doing that's so important? He was great
When will based tom save us from capeshit?
>>68891429
That bathroom fight was comedy and sort of at odds with the film's overall tone.
>>68891429
i fucking loved this movie and i love Tom Cruise
Wash me in your judgement kinofags, you can all fucking die
I get a boner for good car chases. I get even bigger boners when its really the actor driving.
>>68894138
It's was all Tom's idea too.
>>68891429
It was actually bredy gud until the end where Tom started shooting everybody and then executed the guy because vigilantism is cool or some shit. Even in the book it didn't go down like that.
>>68891573
It should be noted that the author thought that casting Cruise was fine because he wrote Reacher as a big guy in order to make him embody power and relentlessness, and he felt like Cruise managed to project these anyway despite not being a big guy.
>>68894138
but it turned out perfect
>>68891429
>in the books Jack Reacher is described as a huge, towering man, full of muscles
>they cast a manlet to play him
>>68894369
And where can I find this big guy?
>>68894476Within yourself
Enjoyable flick. Main problem is Cruise is 10" and 100 pounds too small for the role
>>68894138
The movie had bits of comedy in it so it wasn't totally unrelated
It was toms idea too. Makes me wonder if he could be a good director too. He seems to know what he's doing.
>>68891516
I love the books and the height thing wasn't an issue for me. I didn't even think about it.
>>68891573
lee child is a retard when it comes to this. No one can genetically be like that. supposedly reacher never lifted to bulk, which is bullshit. Tom knocked it out of the park though.
>>68894689
how did that affect the movie? Not everyone has read the books and knows he's supposed to be a giant and it's not like he came off as a manlet in the movie. Not a problem at all.
>>68891429
I liked itand I'm looking forward to the sequel
>>68894852
Everyone is a giant in those books anyway
Even the girls are 6' atleast
Like this comment if you had to stop and jerk off to Rosamund Pike
>>68891429
Tom's the best
http://filmschoolrejects.com/features/20-things-we-learned-from-the-jack-reacher-commentary.php
>The big car scene features only a single process trailer (camera trailer rig) for the shot where the bad guys pull out behind Reacher as he drives by. “Because I had to do the pan,” explains McQuarrie, “and Tom looked at me and said ‘What is that doing here?’ I said I need it for the shot, and he said ‘This is humiliating, it’s like training wheels, I don’t want to see that thing again!'” The remainder of the scene features Cruise actually driving.
>Cruise: “I have to say, phone calls. I gotta give Sydney Pollack credit because in doing The Firm I had so many phone calls in The Firm… and I said ‘Sydney, how are we gonna make these phone calls different,’ and he said ‘look at 3 Days of the Condor,’ and he would direct me in how he used the camera and positions to turn on different story points that gave the audience through choreography and lens choice that told the story, that gave me behavior to tell the story.”
>>68894369
> implying Child wasn't forced to say that to get more of that sweet movie money
Honestly, i allways imagined Reacher more or less like Razor Ramon, minus the toothpick, alcoholism and mullet.
There's a difference between your strength coming from being a manlet with a napoleon complex or actualy being tall and strong.
>>68894369
>Even in the book it didn't go down like that.
been a while since I read the book so I can't remember why he let him live, but killing him wasn't out of character, just as the entire scenes leading up to it weren't
>>68895429
>manlet with a napoleon complex
I don't think tom actually has this though.
>>68895647
He is definitly overcompensating for something.
All those stunts for the sake of looking like a badass, all those publicity shots of him on top of the Burj, in the Grand Canyon, dangling from that plane...
Guy's got issues.
Its great. Cant wait for the sequel.
>>68895033
Y-You knew??
>>68895971
sounds like you're just projecting.
>>68896122
Nope, that's the vibe i get of him.
Maybe he has to fill the void his thetans left.
>>68891573
>he was physically described as having "a six-pack like a cobbled city street, a chest like a suit of NFL armor, biceps like basketballs, and subcutaneous fat like a Kleenex tissue
>He also reveals that his size is purely genetic
>he is not much of an exercise enthusiast.
fucking lol. I don't usually bring gender into things, but did a woman write this?
>>68896319
>Nope, that's the vibe i get of him.
literally projecting.
>>68896382
no need to be sexist m8, those are concepts any retard can come up with. There are still retards who think they have high metabolisms, mostly guys. The books aren't great works of art with millions of hours of research. They're literally glorified comics.
>>68891573
>no bronzed tan from the harsh steppe sun
FUCKIN DROPPED
>>68896511
yeah, I googled it. My assumptions were incorrect. I'd assumed a guy would know better about that kind of shit.
Honestly the movie character was more believable than the book character.
Also, Werner Herzog stole the show.
Cruise cannot Lose
