Movies back in the day never had the world building of TV shows. Hell even TV shows didn't even have much world building other then a series of tropes.

Since H&H are able to travel back and time they do. They go back in time and avoid there former selves. There is no timeline where they didnt go back in time. This already happened because they go back in time originally and always. What is done in the past already had happened simultaneously. with them going back in time. Thats the entire point of the film Harry uses the patronus so well because he knows he had already done it earlier.
