There's no continuity to the Mad Max series, is there?
>>
>>68879462
there's 0 continuity in the leone western series(dollars+OUAW+My name is nobody) but IDGAF
>>
The way I look at it Max isn't a single character, but a memories and stories of selfless men who help people in a post-apocalyptic setting and walk away into the night without asking for anything. He's anybody who's good and right in a terrible world.
>>
>>68879462
Nope, not really.
>>
>>68879520

This is a good response.
>>
In the original trilogy there is. Max carries his wounds, his car, his outfit, and his dog from the first movie to the second movie.

The dog from Road Warrior wasn't in Mad Max.
>>

>walk away into the night without asking for anything
you never saw road warrior didja
>>
>>68879651
His family gets a puppy blue heeler do they not?
>>
>>68879520
>The way I look at it
No it's the way someone else on the internet looked at it then got parroted to death
>>
>>68879462
1 and 3 sucked so terribly. It's terrible that we only have two MM movies. The game is also decent tho...
>>
>>68879589
Not even. There's a different apocalypse in each film. Technically, Mad Max doesn't even have an apocalypse, it's just gang violence run amok; in the Road Warrior, it's petroleum depletion; and in Beyond Thunderdome, it's nuclear war.
>>
>leg brace from getting shot by shotgun
>sawn off shotgun he took from the first movie
>eye damage from the first movie
>same car he took from the first movie
>necklace he gave his wife (and took off her body) next to the wrench on his outfit
>>
>>68879674
What do you mean?

It's the best Mad Max film so obviously I've seen it. What I'm saying is he helps and gives himself when he doesn't need to. This is a man who lives on his own and could as easily walk away from or kill whoever needs his help, but he doesn't.

>>68879718
They're not incredibly complex movies if you haven't noticed.
>>
>>68879462
1-world teetering on brink of destruction, Max loses his family in the chaos
2-world had gone to shit, Max cares about only himself, finds redemption
3-new barbaric societies are beginning to emerge with their own rules
4-scarcity has more or less driven everyone to join various factions that control resources

Seems like a pretty coherent setting, the only sources of discontinuity are production related, like changing leads, using the same actor for different roles or switching accents.
>>
>>68879718
>projecting that hard
its mad max
holy fuck, it is pretty simple to come to this conclusion

Nope. Plenty of things clearly carry over so that assumption is just parroting something. Unoriginal.

its loose canon

There's enough of one, until Fury Road.

And that isn't a knock on Bane; The world seems to've ended in a completely different way.

And in the videogame, it's literally all of the above plus plague and famine.
>>

you already rekt me, pls stop :^)
But seriosuly whats wrong with an unreliable narrator interpretation when it comes to the inconsistencies within the Mad Max franchise?
>>
>>68879731
It's not just GANG VIOLENCE RUN AMOK, it's societal decay. This decay was the beginning of global economic downturn and depression, because of... petroleum depletion which lead to global resource wars, which ended with atomic fire. The first three movies are an arc from collapse to rebuilding (though nobody cars about the third one or cares about the symbolism of its ending, what with children repopulating and recolonizing the old world).

The fourth one throws it all into disarray. If you believe what they say, about needing to travel like 600 days west to get anywhere (they all start to leave, then Max is convinced to start the second half of the movie) then one can reasonably assume that the fucking ocean is dry. That they'd be driving across a dried seabed to get to India or Africa. Which is fucking bizarre. Am I to assume that all the of the world's water was subsumed into the mantel? I mean, that happens naturally but the process is so slow that it would take billions of years to happen in totality.
>>
>>68880316
The 600 day comment had to be an fuck-up, even if you only drove 10 hours a day at 50 miles an hour you could travel the world a dozen times over.
>>
>>68880237
Was the game any good?
>>
>>68880414
There's also no way they could carry enough guzzoline to last that long. No way they had more than two days worth between the lot of them.
>>
>>68880316
>>68880414
I remember them saying 160 days not 600
>>
>>68880480
I like it a lot. The combat's similar to the Batman: Arkham games, although more simplified, but the driving's incredibly satisfying. You also get a real sense of scale from the world It's enormous, and while things still tend to be varying shades of brown, the terrain is varied and diverse between the different regions.
>>
>>68880516
I think you're right, that's still ridiculous though. 16 days kinda makes sense, maybe.
>>
>>68879717
no that was a different dog.

There's continuity but also huge gaps inbetween stories.
Max changes a lot throughout because multiple years worth of time pass between then and when you last saw him.
>>
The first two films are connected if you ask me.

Mad Max shows the last days of the world, the government is weak and everything's going to hell. Max's family dies and he embraces the destruction around him. He becomes a hardened killer, gets the interceptor, and is wounded.

Road Warrior is years and years later. The world really did go to hell, and all civilization is gone. We see the aftermath of Max's wounds. We see that since his family, he no longer cares for anyone but himself. Also, the apocalypse here isn't that important. It might not even be real. Max is a robot, living for the sake of it, stopping no where, knowing no one. His world is death and loneliness. This is his outlook on life after his family died. So to him, the world did end. Maybe it didn't actually, but for him it is all over. Obviously it's a metaphor but take it as seriously as you want.

Thunderdome is obviously chronologically after RW but it seems the actual apocalypse is either retconned or expanded upon. Either way Thunderdome isn't that good so who cares.

And Fury Road is a terrible attempt at a reboot/whatever that doesn't matter in the slightest because it completely misunderstands the franchise's title character. I hope George Miller dies before the next one

Just walk away. . .

/tv/ hopes you die first pleb
>>
How come there is no mad max merchandise?
>>
>>68881074
I think you are the one who completely misunderstands max
>>
Think of it like a legend, sorta like Robin Hood. The different films are just different storytellers telling the legend.
>>
>>68879462
Yes there is clear continuity
