It's been like six years since I read the Dark Tower series, but wasn't Roland being white a huge problem for the black girl with the split personality? As in, it was a plot point?
Of course if this is not important then it's okay to have Roland be black, not like I'm watching it anyway since the way book 7 ended made me hate the series so much I will never ever get involved with it or Stephen King again.

Odetta/Detta was a black woman living in the 1960's. There was a lot of racism back then. The meaner, more fucked up personality hated all white people. She hated Roland by default because of that, on top of being crazy and violent. Her overcoming this hate and distrust was pretty much the climax of the second book.
