only black and white scares allowed. Post the best.
Cat People was good.
Eyes Without a Face is...maybe more a thriller, but it's very tight and well paced. And not supernatural, it's actually fairly believable.

Any RKO Horror produced by Val Lewton is great. Cat People was already mentioned, but I Walked with a Zombie, The Leopard Man, and a bunch more are just as fantastic.
Vampyr from 1932 is the best early vampire movie, better than Nosferatu or Dracula. The Mummy is the best Universal Horror film. Although, The Creature Walked Among Us (Black Lagoon Part 3) is much better than the first two in its series surprisingly enough. It's a different take instead the same old monster loves girl story. Highly recommend.
More on the sci fi spectrum but early Roger Corman movies like The Beast with a Million Eyes and It Conquered the World are fantastic.
The Bad Seed is fucking kick ass, not even a monster movie or anything. It definitely informed Psycho if you ask me.
I do not care much for The Haunting but it pioneered camera and sound effects used years later in stuff like The Evil Dead, worth a watch.

SO I HIT HIM AGAIN!yfw when the director originally wanted the little girl to get away with murder but regulations forced them to kill "the monster" at the end of the film

All great
>be watching TCM this last October
>Robert Osborne is hosting the Essentials
>they're showing Picture of Dorian Grey
>Sally Field is co-hosting it with him and can't stop shitting on the movie and Hurd Hatfield's performance and tells based Rob that she doesn't consider it "an essential"
I swear I wanted to reach out and strangle her.

yes, it is pretty spoopy

Yeah, you weren't allowed to show someone getting away with or benefiting from a crime.

The studio insisted it get put in, the director wanted it removed to make it more subtle. I quite like it though, you didn't see effects like that at the time really and you barely see it. The bit on the train tracks is super ominous.
Btw pick kinda related, big influence from German horror cinema at the time but more thriller. Still amazing.

Yeah, I know all that, but I heard that some version of the film exists that is how Jacques originally wanted it.

I like Night of the Hunter, but some of the pacing is kind of odd.

>Dat rushed finale to please the censors

the movie itself isn't that great, but John Carradine I think is probably the most underrated Dracula.
