It's really amazing how quicly Mad Magazine turned to shit after William Gaines died.
Gains fought hard to keep the magazine with no ads, high quality paper, good editing etc. Then he died and within a month it was on shitty glossy paper and full of ads

Last time I read it it was a really weird experience. They still have some good stuff of comic artistry, Spy vs Spy, The Lighter Side, Sergio Aragonés comics. But then inbetween all that stuff is garbage like lazy photoshop jokes and just really stupid stuff.
It's a shame because Mad Magazine really did foster great stuff that we just don't have anymore. With the exception of a few Webcomics (which rarely update) there's nothing that can compare.

My family never watched them and I got them confused. Still do. In Living Color was where Jim Carrey came from? Friends and other kids at school would sometimes talk about them. A friend's older brother would do Jim Carrey bits. Forget if it wasn't until later I realized it.

In Living Color was the predecessor to MadTV. You can tell some of the sketches in the first season of Mad were originally going to be in In Living Color before it was canceled.

Carrey became a household name thanks to In Living Color. You can buy the seasons for cheap or find them online somewhere. Highly recommended although it's pretty dated and you probably won't get a lot of the references if you're a younger Millennial.
