Also written history is far more valuable than oral history, which could be significantly influenced by myths and embellishments. Well yeah, but that's not something specific to Europeans in any way. As for written history being more reliable than oral history, that wasn't necessarily the case through history (it's not even the case today) so it's difficult to really assess that. Most peoples that cared enough about recording history came up with a way to put into written form in one way or the other anyway. Also regarding that, writing was generalized (as in used for something other than state business) relatively late in certain civilizations because climate conditions prevented a reliable way to preserve what was written with the available materials.
