It's not exempt of flaws (poor character development, not very good actor direction, unnecessary fan service, lack of focus, etc.) but at least it wasn't a coarse attempt to grab easy money while pleasing people blindfolded by nostalgia. Besides, it has a better soundtrack and some memorable scenes.
Ep. VII on the other hand felt much more boring and stupid, the plot was rushed and with some holes/poor writing/whatsoever, twists were retarded, shat on the ending of the OT with no explanation, had a THIRD Death Star, even more unnecessary fan service, and was so unoriginal --constantly mimicking Ep. IV-- it was just predictable at every scene. Besides, it also had a lot of CGI, which seems to be a fault often attributed to the PT but forgiven in this case.
