What is with the recent trend of objectively mediocre to bad movies getting positive to great critical reception? Its only happened in the last 2-3 years.
>>68841976
>Its only happened in the last 2-3 years.
thats not really true
>>68841994
How many examples are there are a trend of movies one after the other that are objectively bad getting critical praise?
>>68841976
>Its only happened in the last 2-3 years.
No it hasn't. Shit like Shawshank redemption comes to mind. Or Forrest Gump, Apollo 13, Jurassic Park, most oscar bait since, well, ever...
I wouldn't say they are mediocre, just a different kind of movie than what the truly great pieces of cinema in history are. That doesn't mean they're bad or anything.
>>68842048
Shawshank, Gump, Apollo 13, and Jurassic Park aren't objectively bad like Marvel shit or TFA.
flying off of hype, "geek culture" and """""fun"""""
>>68842081
They are more or less the same type of movie. Feelgood films that don't push any boundaries and don't have any artistic vision past making it big at the box-office or at the oscars. Maybe they aren't as big cashgrabs as those made today, but they could perfectly sit on the same shelf.
>>68842102
Probably this
In the last 2-3 years a movie will get criticized for not being "fun" unless it's a hard R type deal.
>>68841976
Whats with retards with understanding how RT scores work?
Whats with people thinking its new for mediocre movies to do well in the box office?
But to help you out. Its the overseas market. The worst big budget American movie is better than most other countries movies. Especially in China, so its odd they keep shoving blacks in movies as if Asian people want to see that.
>>68842298
The game has changed, studios can spend more because they might not make their money back in the US, but they know they can sell it overseas. A generic American movie will sell more tickets in theaters in Asia and Europe than the average local movie.
>>68842102
>Movies tried to poison video games, but in the end video games poisoned movies
It's communism v capitalism all over again.
>>68842102
And the nostalgia cash grab. Is anyone actually hyped for a dark and gritty fucking Power Rangers? Did anyone need to see Pixels (Even if Sandler wasn't in it)?
>>68841976
>great critical reception
>rotten tomatoes
that website is as simple as anything that if you fail to understand it you should revoke your life.
a number of people give their opinion on the film. The score is based on how many of them liked the movie. If they all liked it then its 100% (Toy Story). If 5 of them liked it and 5 of them disliked it, then its 50%, but does that mean its a bad film? not to half the audience; but yet it gets a 'rotten' rating
>into darkness got 87%
We're all part of a global conspiracy to create stunted adults who fork out billions of dollars for superhero comics, cartoon toys, anime pillows, video game T-shirts and movie reboots of nostalgic IPs.

>Lawnmower man that low
Fucking how?
>>68842630

>global conspiracy
Protip: a conspiracy is done in secret, not publicly.
>>68841976
If you hate capeshit stop making these guaranteed replies threads. For the good of this board, STOP.
What is with the recent trend of people treating Rotten Tomatoes like it's the holy word of cinema that can never be wrong?
>>68842647
Global doesn't mean public.
>>68842735
Are you pretending to be retarded? What I'm saying is that there is no conspiracy because this shit is happening in public and it's being done openly.
>>68841976
Jurassic Wold is a 71% imo
>>68842810
it's actually closer to 60%
>>68841976
>objectively mediocre to bad
for you
>>68842794
>it's all in public!
No it isn't.
>>68843029
You mean these people are trying to actively hide the fact that they're going to sell dumb shit to dumb people?
Take off your fucking tinfoil.
>>68841976

>>68841976
BvS is shit anon, fuck off.
>>68841976
>>68841976
I'd love to comment, but for some reason you've rendered the actual ratings entirely illegible.
The big percentage is just the number of critics who reckon it's worth paying money to see; it's not a reflection of their specific opinions on the film.

It's been happening for years. But with the internet we're aware of it now more than ever.
Also bloggers that count as "professional" reviewers are fucking up ratings.

The problem is with your ability to gauge film quality, not with those movies themselves.

Objectively
Marvel Was a Critical success
Marvel was an audience success
