Cameron might not be the best artist, but he is an artist and technician. Not a businessman that has to check the Daily Demographic Newsletter.
>>
>>68841874
Titanic and Avatar were designed to have an ever broader level of appeal than episode 7.
>>
Eastern countries came over the visuals, people committed suicide because they couldn't be on Pandora, couldn't deter them from realizing it was shit
>>
>>68841874
It's called craft.
>>
Titanic was in theaters for like 6 months.
>>
Right place right time. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
>>
>>68842277
meanwhile star wars the force awakens held nothing back releasing their film at the start of a 2 week holiday in every single theatre possible and still only just curled over $2B
>>
Titanic was re-released
>>
>>68842329
People aren't spending money these days. Titanic was released during an economic boom, and Avatar at the end of a recession when people were finally opening their wallets.
>>
>>68841874
One of them was piggybacking garbage.
>>
>>68842277
>Right place right time. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

he made the abyss and true lies as well, both 4 star movies that still hold up great.

Avatar did so well because it was many people's first 3D experience or first non-disappointing one.
>>
>>68842424
this is a very poor excuse. To say star wars 7 only got $2B because of the world economy is a load of bollocks. China is a booming economy yet the film didn't do too well. Same for India.

the film was literal fan service and if you couldn't care less for star wars then people wont bother. not exactly a date flick

not to mention star wars 7 was released at a time when spending is extremely high because of holiday season

china's actually in the midst of its worst financial troubles in decades
the movie failed to sell in china for a number of reasons

Actually film sales tend not to be affected by economic booms and busts. Movies and pornography are the only industries that remain steady in any condition.
>>
>>68841874
They were carefully engineered to garner mass appeal across every major demographic and released in holiday time periods where the had no competition and lots of people available to fill seats.

Why do retards keep making this "argument"? It's like saying "it was rereleased!"

So what? If that's the magic trick then why don't studios rerelease every movie or let it run for half a year? Because that only works if the demand is there in the first place.
>>
>>68843498

And Star Wars was removed after 2 months because no one wanted to watche this piece of shit anymore. I wonder why...
>>
>>68842904
Don't forget 3d for Avatar. Basically started the 3d boom.
>>
>>68842256
Titanic did well less because of this...
>>68842904
...and more because of this. I was in high school when it came out and girls would boast of how many times they saw it in theaters just like SW or LotR nerds do. Except it was all of them, not just the nerds. That's what kept it in theaters for half a year.
>>
cos tfa was the 2nd shittest star wars

if it was a good film it would have smashed avatar. it couldn't make it on hype alone

Yeah, the same excuse was said for TPM and Titanic, which DOUBLED TPM's gross

When will you star wars manchildren learn that star wars isn't, has never, and will NEVER be popular enough to beat James Cameron at the box office?
>>
Avatar was a 3D novelty and was pricey as fuck. They basically cheated.
>>
>>68847359
TFA's average ticket price was significantly higher than Avatar's was in literally almost every relevant box office market, including the US.

Jim is literally incapable of doing anything wrong.

Avatar was gimmick hype and the Avatar sequels won't come close to the same amount

Titanic gathered a broad spectrum of movie goers, both male and female, and was marketed to hell and back

Star Wars got close, but it's not exactly a date movie and the female movie goers aren't as interested in Star Wars as the male demographic,
>>
Avatar had 3D gimmick being fresh, Titanic had a broad demographic, Star Wars had two generations of fans, but mostly male, and having a Mary Sue and nignog as leads hurt it in China

I think it has more to do with the fact that people are laundering money through cinemas in the east. I read an article a while back about ghost tickets in China, where theatres are playing movies at strange hours for massively increased prices and they're consistantly sold out.

I think that has more to do with these inflated box office figures than anything else. Titanic, Avatar and HP are probably the only movie on that list that don't have inflated figures.
>>
>>68848729
>In a time where money is laundered in the east ,Star Wars 7; a film with the opportunity to launder as much you like, still flops.
>>
>>68843553
You dummy. It was in theaters for 6 months because thats how long it took for people to not want to see it anymore.

It was in theatres for 6 months because it was making the amount of money for that amount of time to justify it being kept in theatres for 6 months, not the other way round. You'd have to be a fucking idiot to try and argue that Titanic made as much money as it did because it was in theatres for 6 months.

Meanwhile TFA lost near-90% of its screens in the first 3 months because demand dropped low enough for theatres to kick it out for more profitable and in-demand movies.
>>
>>68842534
what is inflation
>>
>>68841874
Rewatchability. You don't hit James Cameron numbers without people going to the theater multiple times.

Have you not met Cameronfags before? I mean how dumb do you have to be to think that Avatar is better than TFA. No one even remembers what happens in Avatar or any of the characters names.
