Why does the media make such a big deal of tom cruise being a scientologist? I don't see what the big deal is. Let the man believe what he wants to believe. Could you imagine people going in as hard at Judaism like they do with scientology?
He has had one of the most consistent careers ever and has never had problems with drugs or any other scandals and it just seems petty to go all the way to coming at him for what he believes in to tear him down.
He's a handsome, successful, non-Jewish actor so the media wants you to hate him.

That's the thing about entertainment.
Actors, musicians, comedians it feels like they are preforming for *you*. Like they exist to entertain you and only you. That's what makes it good. eg: song lyrics sounding like they fit your situation perfectly, an actor playing a cool part so well you want to be that guy on the screen. But, when the entertainer reveals that they have a life outside of you, it pisses off your mushy entertained brain, or cognitive dissonance as it's known. Even more so if it's something that ruins the entertainment value of the things they're in, because you know and knowing brings you out of the experience. It's much simpler to live in a dream world without 'the truth' bogging it down.
Also, love is oh so close to hate. The 90s loved Tom Cruise. It quickly switches to hate depending on the severity of the misdeeds or weirdnesses. See Bill Cosby.
