Literally because when Jon Favreau was making the movie he started a MySpace group to ask the fans what they wanted to see in the movie and while he didn't go with any of the popular casting choices (Jewel Staite didn't get to play Pepper Potts for example) he did go with the music suggestions, Black Sabbath's "Iron Man" being the key one and a cameo by Ghostface Killah (aka Tony Starks) being the other, though the cameo was cut.
The Black Sabbath thing informed the character portrayal in general and led to him being a big fan of Dad Rock, so here we are.
