I think him coming back is going to have something to do with Bran. I think in the next couple episodes we're going to see a lot of Bran. It's pretty obvious by now Jon is warged into Ghost because D&D are really quick to forget about the direwolves unless they serve some over-arcing purpose.
Previously in the books GRRM has said that a warg may go into an animals body and stay there even after their own body dies and from the POV of a wildling warg from the prologue in book 4 I believe it was he even explicitly said that when the warg's human body died it felt like a "cold shroud." This matches perfectly to Jon feeling a "cold chill" after a few stabs at then end of the last book.
I think Bran will come back knowing a lot more about the powers of a warg and he will somehow be able to bring back Jon possibly in combination with the red woman.
