This is something that happens a lot in media. A character is talked about or otherwise bigged up to be a good fighter and then when a fight actually happens it looks retarded because the actor doesn't know what they're doing.
The S5 fight scene between Jaime, Bronn and the Snakes for example. It's so poorly choreographed, they all just flail about like idiots, and there's no way that two professional fighters wouldn't be able to immediately overpower three girls half their size and weight.
I'd compare it unfavorably to Rob Roy, where Liam Neeson's character is portrayed throughout the film as only being able to win through trickery and cunning, so when an actual fight happens at the end he's hopelessly outmatched.
