Why is he such an idiot ?

He knows there's no way the company can live without him, he knows he's the only one who can finish the product and make any money with the company... so why not calling their bluff ?

He should have said: I'm the CEO or I quit and all your money goes to waste and my super idea is dead in the water, you'll have invest time and money for nothing. Is this what you want ?

OF COURSE they would have cave, they want money, that's it. At worse they would have reduce their investement.

He's the one with power and he doesn't realise it.
>>

>Why is he such an idiot ?
because the show would be boring if he were sensible.

>He knows there's no way the company can live without him, he knows he's the only one who can finish the product and make any money with the company... so why not calling their bluff ?
the company probably could live without him, but it would take longer to get running. And he is kinda calling their bluff but he also isn't a dick (and gets played by the CEO).

>He should have said: I'm the CEO or I quit and all your money goes to waste and my super idea is dead in the water, you'll have invest time and money for nothing. Is this what you want ?
he could have said that and they would have said fine, good bye, and move on without him. Like I said above, they probably could have created A version of the software.
>OF COURSE they would have cave, they want money, that's it. At worse they would have reduce their investement.
they wouldn't have, and they didn't
>He's the one with power and he doesn't realise it.
he has some power, but there's a reason he's going to be CTO.
>>
>>68772023
>and move on without him
to do what ? without him they have no product !
>>
>>68772121
they have 90% of the product done. They could cobble together the rest to have a working version of the software, though it probably wouldn't be as good as if he had done it. OR it could be even way better. It's just a plot device that could go either way.
>>
>>68772223
I loved the point where Gilfoyle and Danesh started to look through the code that they thought they could work with and realized that they need Richard.
>>
>>68772331
I love the point where you fail to see that this is just a sitcom and the plot works to move the story forward, not to stroke your autism.
>>
>>68772381
I love the point where your post is actually a lot more autistic than his.
>>
>>68772879
of course, because I was stroking his autism. There's no way to answer his autistic post seriously without going full autismo. That's what happens when people try to nitpick a fucking sitcom

PROTIP: Most of the people in SV in real life are smart but not smart business wise.

This is the problem when you have poorly written characters like Walter White that solves le ebin problems with "le SCIENCE BITCH XD" and with crap out of their asses, retards that know shit about writing characters consider this as a standing point for characters and think that all characters should be like this.

Richard is actually more human than many other characters in television nowadays. He's smart but his ego is letting him down, he realizes this and fixes his mistakes.

Because one of two things would happen in that case. They would've folded or just put out a half-assed imitation based upon what they already had.

But, either way, if he ever tried to code anything that remotely resembled the pied piper stuff, the parent consortium would've sued him into oblivion and taken everything he wrote as their property under the same clause as what the hooli CEO tried to do.

Either way, bad end.
>>
>>68771867
Did you even watch the season premier? He totally did call their bluff, he accepted a new job at a different company for fucks sake. Except they actually weren't bluffing at all.

Also, Richard's lawyer is based as fuck.

they kinda were and they were in complete control of the situation. If richard did leave, they would have just assembled a team of competent coders to finish the job. Probably not as well, but it would have gotten done.

>>68771867
They would sue the shit out of him, he wouldn't get any backers just because of the notion that any product somehow related to compression algorithms that came from his hand could potentially end up in a copyright infringement lawsuit as his original algorithm is registered to the name of the Pied Piper company and not Richard Hendricks. Have you not payed attention or are you simply retarded?

Exactly, they weren't bluffing. Reviga had already found Richard's replacement and they were going to move forward with or without him. They just didn't want him to be in charge of managerial shit, and for good reason.

it's already finished. He's the only one who can "make it scale," even though that wouldn't be hard for a team of people if they have enough manpower to reverse engineer his code.

I do like that Richard has character flaws despite being this coding genius, but I think they take his autism over the top at times. That scene after he won the Hooli trial was cringey as fuck.

I get that Hooli is supposed to be a hyperbolic satire of what Silicon Valley really is, but Gavin pisses me the fuck off. No CEO would keep his job if half of their employee contracts were invalid because it violated their employee's rights. And then they act like firing half of their staff will only benefit the company without any repercussions whatsoever.

the opposite is true: devs go out of their way to obfuscate proprietary code so it can't be figured out easily.

open source code is easy to read and use and is usually annotated. Richard has his own logic and probably didn't annotate shit because he didn't think anyone else was going to see his code.

we're talking obfuscated code, not who can piss the highest, douchebag.
>>
>>68778128
How's the wordpress coding going? You showing those indians what's up?
>>
>>68778231
your point is you're taking the schematics of the show too seriously. lighten the fuck up. It's a comedy.
>>
>>68778264
The code they showed as richards in the show basically compiles to 'nice try idiots'.

which means Richard never gave the company his original code.
>>
>>68775768
We should have more dinesh/gilfoyle scenes in general
>>
>>68778184
Ah, see that makes sense to me.

But that just makes me wonder what the fuck they were thinking leaving.
>>
>>68778357
>he thinks the easter egg is meant to be the literal code Richard wrote.
it's garbage code that's a stand in for real code

Pied Piper isn't real... y'know?
>>
Sometimes I think it's crazy how uncanny this show is to the tech industry.

A lot of people fail upwards and a lot of people backstab each other to get ahead. Failing upwards is pretty big thing too.

>Carmack sqrt
its not that complicated actually the wiki explains it very good

>>
>>68778429
Or maybe it's an easter egg for people smart enough to compile the code to get details on the next episode?
>>
>>68778380
They should do a spin-off that takes place in the "in-between moments" of the show, and that's 100% Danesh & Gilfoy banter.

Spend more time with hooker's son.

or just longer episodes. it must be one of HBO's most popular shows. how can they not want to make more episodes.
>>
anyone kind of tired of this show now?
>>
>>68778631
Fuck no.

>watching Game of Thrones is a chore
>the SV episode flies by
>>
>>68778574
I don't think HBO has any real hits other than GoT. It does well but not enough to spend more money on it
>>
>>68778574
It seems to be based on the air time of GoT. So afaik, they might want to keep surfing that wave for guaranteed views. And less episodes means less shitty filler. So that's nice.
>>
>>68774825
lol this is a joke in the show. his knickname is bighead, but gavin wrongly calls him baghead (and writes it in power point)
>>
>>68778685
SV and Veep.
>>
>>68778631
Absolutely not. It's pretty much the only comedy where I really care about the plot and the all the characters. And it's the only show that gives the tech industry shit.

I liked the "Monica, Peter Gregory is dead." scene
>>
>>68777548
>Yeah Peter Gregory was a good character.

He was meant to be the boss, the actor died in real life. I like the new woman though. She was great in the smoking episode.

Tell us more about this "r/atheism".
>>

failing upwards? like they're rising to power and fail?
>>
>>68776163
i'm not a big fan either. the only part he's funny in is when he's getting pissed at that asian guy for not understanding what he's saying.
>>
>>68779670
>we're making the world a better place, through Paxos Algorithms for Consensus Protocols

honestly they could do that same inane tech gibberish bit every ep and I'd still love it
>>

there are two answers to the question.

a) he has the emotional maturity of a 12 year old. His pride is fuckin with him. He should know he can't manage a company, but he throws a tantrum anyway. His childish emotions leave him preferring to see everything he developed burn rather than admit he isn't the ubermensch.

b) the writers needed to squeeze drama out of something to draw out the plot. Oh well. The show is still good and has the necessary weekly allowance of tech jargon to make us feel like we are in on something smart (which is not to say that we aren't)
>>
didn't watch the episode, but the through line of the show will kill it. it's literally not important. we don't give a fuck. stop writing the show into the mud and just have episodes.

Reminds me of what recently happened where some guy pulled his library and broke a bunch of sites across the web. All because he wanted to name his new project the same name as something else that was already copyrighted.
