It's quite sad (4 you) that you haven't watched a TV show with a group of friends/mild acquaintances before. It's a unique social experience that can be, yes, quite frustrating, but also a ton of fun.
During season 4 of GoT I had a group of friends I watched the show with. All of us were book readers, and we were all deeply invested in seeing how the show would handle plot points and characters. It was a blast to watch everybody's reactions and share our emotions together.
Yet, I think I'd enjoy group watching GoT more now than in previous seasons. During S4 and earlier, the show was still fairly close to the books. We knew (mostly) what was going to happen, and the show's quality was still decent, so we would be legitimately upset when somebody was talking over a good bit. But now, The show is becoming so fucking terrible that there's no point in trying to watch it seriously anymore. It's much more fun to meme and joke around together than try to get take this crap seriously.

The snakes are strong brown women, sure. But they have been written into horrible monstrous characters. That must've been done for a reason. Look, I am normally not nearly as critical of this TV show as people on here and largely due in part that watching GoT is a really big/ special part of my relationship with my best friend and so more often than not I can usually turn a blind eye to plot deviations/get away with being only slightly annoyed. BUT NOT THIS. LITERALLY. The Martells are my favorite house. They have been my favorite house since I read the books years ago and this show has ABSOLUTELY BUTCHERED THEM.
First off, let’s talk about how THERE IS NO ARIANNE. Arianne’s plot line is one of the best in my opinion. And she is a HUGE player in the Game. And then we got some bullshit excuse, like Trystane will just take her place (WHICH IS BULLSHIT BECAUSE THE COOL THING ABOUT DORNISH CUSTOM IS THAT THE ELDEST RULES REGARDLESS OF GENDER SO LETS JUST TAKE SOME FEMINISM OUT OF THIS SHOW WHY DONT WE). but then, OH, let’s just KILL Trystane. So NOW WHAT.
Then the Sand Snakes. MY FAVORITE CHARACTERS FOR FUCK’S SAKE. THEY ARE OBERYN’S DAUGHTERS. THEY WOULDN’T KILL HIS BROTHER FOR GOD’S SAKE. AND THE SAME FOR ELLARIA. The way they’ve ruined Ellaria’s character is TERRIBLE. Oberyn NEVER harmed or killed children and Ellaria was same but in the show she kills Myrcella and is practically responsible for Trystane’s death and then kills Doran on top of it? Like the Sand Snakes are supposed to a little out of control but Ellaria is the one who stays their hand.
And last but definitely not least let’s talk about the biggest upset this show could ever fucking do to me, Doran’s death. I’m still so pissed about this idek what to say except, in response to the bullshit excuse that they killed him because he’s weak and he didn’t do anything to defend Oberyn.

Well for one Moqorro is pretty high up in the Red Temple, he's probably one step below Benerro or some shit, so he's supposed to be damn good at reading shit.
Also Mel isn't bad at seeing shit in fires, she sees shit all the time, she just can't interpret shit worth a damn, which is more on her as a person rather than experience at being a Red Priestess.
Another thing is we don't know how long Mel has even been associated with the temple. She is stated to be a Shadowbinder from Asshai, (like Quaithe) which is sort of a different sort of magic entirely from the normal Red Priest Magic that Moqorro or Thoros use. So she might just be really good at "shadow magic", but not so great at "fire magic"

If you need a character's name to stick out in order for that character to stick out then either your character is not very strong or you're demonstrating your insecurity about your character not being strong enough. Similar for the titles - people will remember made-up titles if those titles are memorable in the text.
