Its slow, I personally enjoy it but if you don't like constant slow tension building with only sparse action and a good bit of talking, then it probably won't be too enjoyable.
The Alien costume hasn't aged the best and in the brief moments you see it's full body you can tell it's a dude in a suit.
I think that whether or not it's a good movie isn't really disputable, but it isn't for everyone.

It's like one of the Greek gods, Dune got castrated, and out of the blood came Alien et al.
To illustrate how poorly people understand Alien: the actual critical surprise/twist/reveal/whatever is when Ash turns out to be an android.
I watched it for the first time ever last year. I loved the sets and the atmosphere but the alien itself was kind of disappointing due to how clumsy and aged the effects look. Made the whole horror aspect fall flat t-b-h. The facehugger was genuinely creepy though.
