Why is this one of the only good historrical movies out there?

Why are historical movies so hard to get right?

Also, what happened to historical movies? We had Roman Empire movies fucking everywhere in Golden Age Hollywood.
>>
>>68750570
Because those times were too good for our degenerate mindsets. We have media that reflects what we want. I'd recommend Barry Lyndon if your asking though

Yeah. I've subscribed to him after hearing he had a review of the movie. Glad he liked it as much as I do.

Is there hope to revitalize historical epics? I can only watch Lawrence of Arabia and Waterloo so many times.
>>
Holy shit Waterloo. That movie is awesome.

Was a huge flop, though. All those cannons, horses and extras don't come cheap.

Fuck I loved Bill & Ted's excellent adventure
>>
>>68750699
I meant Barry Lyndon the film you tool and no I don't think their is any hope unless they go back to the sword and shield fantasy format from the 80's. Nothing new will ever come out of Hollywood so anything is a matter of time

>To recreate the battlefield authentically, the Russians bulldozed away two hills, laid five miles of roads, transplanted 5,000 trees, sowed fields of rye, barley and wildflowers and reconstructed four historic buildings. To create the mud, more than six miles of underground irrigation piping was specially laid. Most of the battle scenes were filmed using five Panavision cameras simultaneously—from ground level, from 100 foot towers, from a helicopter, and from an overhead railway built right across the location.

Lawrence of Arabia
The Man Who Would Be King

that roughly grouped generation had some good, underrated epics.

(Lawrence of Arabia definitely not calling underrated before somebody shitposts)

Lawrence of Arabia was great but I still cringe when I see the Turks use M1919 .30 cal American machine guns.

There are so much shit they could adapt, like Belisarius' campaigns, Heraclius defensive war against the Persians turning into a great offensive and even the Fall of Constantinople.

Fall of Constantinople would be GOAT, but the Byzantines would obviously be portrayed as the bad guys.

speaking of machine guns The Wild Bunch was on the other night. that's a GOAT movie, and it's sorta historical in terms of setting

Now Siege of fucking Malta starring Jeremy Irons as Valette, Tom Hardy as Oliver Starkey, and Ben Kingsley as Dragut. Picture that shit, and if you don't know about that moment in history thank me after you hit the wiki (or if you really commit, read the Ernle Bradford history)

I wrote a part of a screenplay and a screenplay treatment for it but my production company decided to purchase a kids movie treatment off me instead

Pretty much this. The whole thing with cultural marxism and the persecution complex of the religious right comes from cold war traumas. Not to mention they have zero idea of the extent of the worker's movement in america in the XIX century, or that the real reason Teddy Roosvelt was so beloved was because of the bloodless resolution of a coal strike that menaced to froze half the country. I would pay to watch a movie about that...

I actually liked it, especially liked the complete turn around in relationship the main character had with jews when he was a normal peasant in England (which was dubious at best) and his almost complete acceptance when he pretended to be a jew.

Its a nice critique on sub cultures.
>>

Nah, if you just put in some sort of intro word scroll that's all like

>after the fall of the roman empire, her territories were split in two by the east and the west
>when the western empire fell, all that remained was the east.
>this is the story of the death of the eastern empire; of byzantium
>this is...
>The Fall of Constantinople(title)
>>
>>68753723

I always found it fascinating to think about how the Byzantine Empire lasted nearly 1000 years longer after Rome itself fell. They called themselves the Roman Empire until the day they were defeated; It's only history that records them as Byzantine.

So in many ways, Rome lasted all the way up to only 39 years before the discovery of the Americas.
>>

This.

The problem is the only people who could do it right (the French) don't have the money and don't speak English.
