This is the most surface-level appreciation of the beauty known as Heart of Darkness' prose I've seen.
Stick to your war flick tbqh famalam.

I played the game in a single evening. It was a shitty and generic third person shooter that only covered the incredibly basic points of the HoD story.

It's fans will literally tell you that they made it bad on purpose.
>>
>>68740496
You know when someone puts Spec Ops the Line on the level of HoD and Apoc Now that their opinion can be immediately discarded. Mediocre in storytelling, visual design, and gameplay. Relies way too much on shock value to get a message across.

The fact that you only cite Nabokov as an example of good prose shows that you have a pretty rudimentary idea of what makes for a good stylist. Yes, he's brilliant. But it's also incredibly easy to see WHY he's brilliant.

You should read more Joyce, Beckett, and Faulkner.

Have any of you read the developers interviews? It followed Ahmad themes, but it wasn't based on it. The ENTIRE point of the game was to highlight how boring, sterile, and linear modern military shooter games are. It highlights how you have no choice in these games, except to not play them.

This game basically criticized the military shooter genre for everything that /tv/ criticizes it for. But you "patricians" are so dogmatically against anything that isn't cinema, that you're fighting against yourself.

Also, it really did have an awesome soundtrack.
>>
>>68741581

Simply untrue. Start with Dubliners, and you'll be pleasantly surprised.
>>
>>68740895
/v/ hates this game. I'm not joking. It exposed them as idiots, and they got ass lasted about it. The point of the game was to show that you can't always be the hero, and that sometimes the best thing you can do is walk away.

The number #1 complaint on /v/, I shit you not, was:
"They should have allowed you to choose he correct option to win."

That's probably the best defense of a video game I've ever heard.

You know a good parody of how boring and linear the modern milshooters are? That fucking joke game released to promote Bulletstorm. That was about 10 minutes long and did it's job just fine.

You know how you don't want to criticize milshooters? By making one by the book.

>>
>>68741894
Nice strawman retard, but I'll bite anyway since you clearly didn't think it through.

Starship Troopers gets its point across and is still an entertaining movie with likeable characters and amazing effects (for the time). Spec Ops is a fundamentally boring, painfully linear, by the numbers 3rd person edgy dogshit shooter. You cannot tell me that they made such a gimped game on purpose, for the sake of of some meta-commentary that the average video game player couldn't give a rat's ass about anyway.

>For the rest, after his hours of work, a casual stroll or a casual spree on shore suffices to unfold for him the secret of a whole continent, and generally he finds the secret not worth knowing. The yarns of seamen have a direct simplicity, the whole meaning of which lies within the shell of a cracked nut. But Marlow was not typical (if his propensity to spin yarns be excepted), and to him the meaning of an episode was not inside like a kernel but outside, enveloping the tale which brought it out only as a glow brings out a haze, in the likeness of one of these misty halos that sometimes are made visible by the spectral illumination of moonshine.

You're idiots. Conrad's writing is always very clear, possibly a result of his learning English as a second language. I can't imagine being as stupid as you. How do you live?

No it isn't, reddit fuckboy. The biggest complaint is the "bad on purpose" generic gameplay. Also, any emotional impact the White phosphorus scene had is pointless when you couldn't have made a choice that would have circumvented it in the first place.
