Now that the dust has settled, can we agree that this was a great movie and equal in quality to ANH and ESB?

It was certainly, at the very least, better than the prequels and you're a dumb contrarian memer if you think otherwise.
>>
>>68731513
Hello Disney marketer.
No it was not better than any of the previous movies, I'm willing to say it was as good as the best of the prequels though.
It was a turboshit emotionless cashgrab made to be as safe as possible by the disney kikes in a boardroom
>>
>>68731513
>equal in quality to ANH and ESB?
Fuck no. On the whole I think even Jedi is better, despite TFA arguably being more consistent.
>better than the prequels
Sure.

>made to be as safe as possible by the disney kikes in a boardroom

>Villain is a kind of a loser instead of a generic badass Darth Maul type who would have easily sold toys (even today dumbasses still think Maul was cool because he was "SO BADASS"
>Han Solo dies an unglorious death (yes I know Ford wanted it to happen, but if they weren't taking risks they would have had him do some kind of badass heroic sacrifice while spouting a one-liner)
>Luke isn't in the movie until the last scene
>movie as a whole focuses on new characters rather than the old

you can't say it took zero risks.

At least put some effort in.

Incidentally,

IV > V > I > VI > II > III > VII
>>
>>68731513
Definitely worse than III, so already not "better than prequels".

You can compare it to the shittier episodes like I and VI, but I don't think this would make you proud, Disney marketer.

From the opening shot until the last frame, this was a great movie. One I can watch again and again.
Why?
Good characters.
Good relationships.
Excellent visual effects.
Fantastic sound design.
Practical sets.
Characters who I actually want to see again.
A universe which I would want to visit again.

>LE BACK TO /V/ EPIC MEME

No, the movie was shit, and you know it's shit, it's just your desire to be contrary on a website dedicated to being contrary overcomes your sense of cinema, you fucking hipster. This entire feature-length film was just A New Hope: Blacked Edition. If you see anything other than yet another act of brainwashing by the you-know-whos, than maybe your taste isn't refined enough to belong on this board.

Pic very related.

Watched this for the first time yesterday:

>tried to cram way too much stuff into a single movie
>lack of proper build up to many action scenes and too much comedic relief
>weak factions with vague motivations
>plot was recycled and predictable
>muh stronk mary sue and member of the urban youth from planet ghetto literally written into the movie only to pander to critical target audiences

Decent flick, 5/10.

I think Kylo Ren merited at least thirty minutes of screen time... but like all of the villains, he seemed to pass by at the periphery of the conflict. There are no clear monologues telling you what the character claims to stand for, either. It does have a very unique take on a soliloquy though, when he prays to the helmet. It is still jarring, but creative enough to be memorable.

It lacks those moments like the middle of ANH, and the latter part of ESB where the characters experience some kind of reprieve from the danger experienced at the start of the film.

Even ANH and ESB had fairly "calm" action where heavy banter would go on even in moments of danger.

Those movies definitely knew when they sought suspense and tension though. A fight in a corridor might have been small-risk, but torture was torture, and a raid was dangerous.

https://youtu.be/baBlc__LyzQ

If Rey's release meant that she had a few moments to explore the Starkiller Base with her friends, it might have helped the pacing. As it stands, the interrogation scene doesn't relax the tension so much as break it in half.

There should also have been an 'Animatrix' style film to precede the release of TFA, and clarify its context.
>>
>>68737189
Why was this scene removed? This could have easily led into the battle and offered some decent Han banter. Maz would also remain relevant.
>>
>>68736283
I think Kylo Ren is a good character (or has potential to be at least) but none of the characters felt like they sat naturally in the plot aside from Leia's Mothma-esque elder statesman role and Finn (though Finn's characterization clashes somewhat with his supposed back story). Everyone--Rey most of all--feels like they're just strung along like puppets for a Star Wars story.

Kylo Ren's motivations are pretty clear, though. I disagree with you there.
>>
>>68737452
The film should've just clarified the shits in the setting better than it did. I admire (to a degree) the movie's drive to get the new story going, but as a sequel a story needs to establish changes in order for the stakes and conflict to have proper context. TFA sucked ass at this.

My dad watched it in blu ray for the first time this weekend. He has really liked star wars for as long as its been out. He doesnt use the internet, never looked up reviews and hasnt been exposed to what people think. He told me it was awful and exactly the same as ANH. And I agree

What I like the most about ep7 is that visually and tonally, it actually looks like it takes place in the OT universe. The style and cinematography of the pt is complete shit and comes off as weird fan fiction horseshit.

The sequel trilogy is literally bringing balance back to starwars and there is NOTHING the inadequate, small penised haters can do about it except act "patrician" on a japanese styled image posting board.

So are the rest, though. He wants to rule and subjugate the galaxy to make a name for himself distinct from being "Luke's nephew" or "Han and Leia's kid" and also inherit what he believes is Darth Vader's real legacy.
>>
>>68739694
>>68739773
Forgot to add that it actually FEELS like starwars too. I never got the sense that I was watching a starwars movie when watching the pt.

There is like, a huge disconnect if you go from pt into ot, but the transition is smooth as butter going from ot into st. To quote solo, "anon, we're home". That's the feeling I get from the new starwars movies.
>>
>>68733259
correct
>>
>>68739694
I never really felt that the Prequels weren't like Star Wars visually. Locations usually seemed cleaner like in better off places such as Naboo or on a droid ship (which seems to be the main complain for some reason), but overall in design and in ideas it seemed similar to the OT.
