No idea. I personally really hate how the story is told in GoT. Too many characters that are on whole different continents from each other makes the story progress so dreadfully slow.

to be honest after I've read his short story collection there are some that are worthy of movies in their own right. Sand Kings, With Morning Comes Mistfall, and A Song for Lya are my favorites and can probably easily be found online.

It's not vague I just don't think you'd be able to pin down what that even means. If you mean having characters split up that's only two groups at most during The Two Towers and Return of the King. Fellowship is a straight chronological narrative focused on Frodo.
