Are there any epic films set in Australia? I feel like Australia is criminally underrepresented in film. By epic I mean something heroic like pic related, Ben Hur, Cleopatra, stuff like that. What would be the proper title for these kind of films? Are they a thing of the past because they're too manly and genuine? Which are the best?

The hay day films of Mad Max and Flesh Gordon.

Those are the criminally underrepresented films.

anything else, and you're just looking for "Australian" literally. They don't even allow B cup girls in porn, let alone violence in video games.

But Yeah, other then Mad Max, a landmark film, not much I know of.

Croc dundee?

personally really like CD2 and would consider it one of the best australian films.

Forgot about Mad Max. The question just occurred to me suddenly. I'm thinking of something more historical and Australia-centric though, that is the kind of movie I thought should exist but doesn't seem to.

I don't know about 'epics', but there's Mad Max, Wake in Fright and Picnic at Hanging Rock

You know that isn't actually true, right?

A-haw mate.
Clearly you 'aven't seen Steve Irwin's The Crocodile Hunter: Collision Course.

It's a fucking ripper of a flick. A croc, and a fucking beauty of a croc at that, swallows a fair dinkum satellite! A couple CIA agents gotta get that croc back, but they gotta get through ol' Steve-o first, ya bludger.

Crikey, just thinking about it's giving me Goosebumps.

Australia only has a population of 20million (and NZ under 5million). They aren't under representated at all. What's more they don't have the history for any epics.

Australians don't tend to take themselves that seriously to make epic films about, Gallipoli would be the closest.

No, not really. I don't think any part of our history would suit an epic. Even the cool stuff like Batavia is pretty small-scale.
