have with the film.

RESPONSE TO FAQ:

After seeing it a 2nd time I noticed that

1. There were a lot of funny moments, some deadpan some irony levity was there it just wasn't at the forefront of the movie. This isn't a comedy so it shouldn't be.
2. Batman did seem to kill more than I originally thought but so did batman in almost every other batman movie so it's really a null point.
3. Lex Luthor was a modern take on a Tech/Weapon mogul. Also worth noting is that he may have been acting out of character, LexCorp denounced him publicly saying they didn't understand his actions..

Lex and Batman were both seen acting out of character (by extension the whole world seemed to be confused). The reason is obvious... there has been an alien invasion on a massive scale as well as a revealing that there have been alien(s) and metahumans living amongst us all along. This is a huge power shift. Lex mirror's Batman in being a rich orphaned kid who sought power and control. The externalize influence to create inner peace. Superman's presence demoted them from a position of power and had them amidst psychotic breakdowns.

When Batman is stuck on the whole "Martha" thing Lois runs up to batman informing him and consoling him as if he's a lunatic dressed up in a ridiculous outfit about to kill someone in some sort of crazed frenzied psychotic break. "Its his mom dude, relax" is basically how she approached batman. Batman is indeed crazy and that's what Zack wanted to portray. Batman and Lex Luthor are really both one in the same and both shared a common goal.

This makes sense, why they symbolism of the Devil is both in doomsday and Batman.

But tell me, why did louis go for the spear when doomsday showed up?

But the Batman character has existed in a world with superhumans and aliens before, and it never drove him to kill people. It makes even less sense when you realize he's not killing superpowered beings but regular human beings.

There are only two reasons to explain Batman being a serial murderer: Snyder either doesn't know about his no-kill policy, which I highly doubt is the case, or he doesn't care, which is worse.

Let him torture the fuck out of criminals. There are examples of Batman going apeshit when someone close to him is seriously hurt or killed.

>3 And I heard a loud voice from the cinema saying, "Look! Snyder's dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and Snyder himself will be with them and be their saviour.

>4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more repetitive or safe or cheap comedy or quips, for the old order of Marvel movies has passed away."

>13 And so they hated him, and persecuted him. The critics crucified him and threw rotten tomatoes at him.

>15 And he stands by the right side of the spirit of Kino, and draws inspiration from it, and so will his followers.

>22 During the filming of the port battle at Batman v Superman, Snyder was found wandering along the port.

>23 In one of such instances he walked on water while carrying an IMAX camera on one hand, which greatly terrified his cast and crew at that time.

>24 Affleck, out of fear, shouted "Snyder, if it is you, tell me to come to the water!"

>25 "Come". Snyder said.

>26 Affleck stepped on the water and walked for a few feet but then sank. He cried out "Snyder, hast thou forsaken me? Save me, oh dear brother!"

I was ready to hate BvS from day one. I'm the biggest DCfag that I know of, and no way Snyder would do a good job. I had faith in Batfleck though.

I went the 24th, and something unexpected happened. I like it. A lot. I had fun. I saw the flaws, and yeah it was very dense, but 30% on RT? What the hell.

I go back, because I have to understand. I was probably being a fanboy. And while there's a ton of flaws andd stupid decisions, I still like it.

I've been 4 times now, and everytime I've enjoyed it a it more. It's weird as fuck.

And even I want Snyder to get the fuck out.
>>
>>68689033
You know what's the most infuriating thing with faggots like you? You don't even want to understand. I've seen multiple people, me among them, spell out in explicit detail why they think it's good, what they saw in it that other people missed, and how that informs what's happening and why. The explanations are cogent, consistent, and totally in keeping with the source material.

And then you guys dismiss it, because entertaining the thought that someone might be more perceptive or insightful or more conversant with the subject than you simply does not compute, and it makes you come across as some kind of smug "participation trophy," "everyone's special in their own way" asshole.

Know what I think? I think everyone *can* be special, but it doesn't happen without some work on their part. So by all means, sit back on your lazy ass and handwave away other people's interpretations and insights as contrarianism. Just do so knowing that there are people like myself who think you're nothing more than a lazy, stupid asshole cowering within your "safe space."

Kill yourself pretentious manchild
Time and time again it has been explained that the problems with BvS lie with the overall structure of the film, several internal contradictions and the entire third act.
you just dismiss this and keep forcing the 2deep4u meme, praising symbolism and motifs that are stated in-dialogue as if this fixed the many problems that the movie has.
Fuck you.

None of the symbolism's meaning is stated in the film, not even by the guy you think does it. Did you really think Luthor speaks literally about anything other than what he wants?

There's only three pivotal scenes with him exhibiting that very behavior, but I guess you were texting during them.

Didn't she see the Batman headed her way, too?

Superdad was one of the most comic book moments in the whole movie. Did you need him to tell you he was a memory so you wouldn't think he was a Force-ghost or something? Maybe the screen should have gone all wavy like they used to go into dream sequences in old TV shows.

Snyder is attempting to equate superheroes to mythological beings, making parallels between the events in the movie and works of universal literature, greek myths, iconic religious figures and arthuric legends.
>>
>>68696979
Granted, but to what end?
>>
>>68697207
Every single one of them serves a different purpose.
Moby Dick illustrates Batman's obsession and the loss of himself that ensues.
Luthor comparing Supes with Prometheus illustrates his allegorical fight against Olympus and his comparison of Zod with Icarus mirrors Zod's exhorbitant ambition.
Arthuric imagery deals with the entire tragedy aspect, the rupture of a pact shatters the lives of those involves and precipitates their death, moral (BW) and literal (CK), but since at the end they are reborn in those aspects that's when religious imagery comes in
Religious imagery is both used to convey how timeless these ideals behind the superheroes are, and to establish a dissonance between Clark by himself and clark as seen by others.
>>
>>68697609
Religious imagery is also used to convey themes like redemption and rebirth.
>>
>>68697609
Not bad. Do you attach any symbolic significance to Clark choosing to wield the spear himself at the end?
>>
>>68698009
Aside from him redeeming himself I fail to see a deeper symbolism in it.
If you found any I'd like to know what it is.
>>
>>68697609
Additionally, I'd say that all three characters are struggling with their own obsessions - Bruce with his vendetta against Clark, Lex with his envy of Clark, and Clark with his own guilt.

I'd say by taking up the spear, he's making a conscious decision to really embrace his role as a hero, wielding it simultaneously as Excalibur and Ahab's spear as he uses it to kill the representation of his own guilt as embodied in Doomsday.
>>
>>68698251
Definitely. This is the one and only truly selfless and heroic decision he takes during the course of the movie, the harpoon he takes being his only weakness actually adds another dimension to what's happening, he's living up to his image.
I noticed another neat visual reference to the dissonance between ideal superman and actual superman in the shot when you have Supe's monument on the left, Superman on the right and doomsday in the middle, the framing makes Clark look minuscule in comparison to both.
>>
>>68698251
To expand on that a bit, it's him choosing his world, a callback to his mountaintop reflections on his father. For me, it's only in that moment that he takes his next step toward becoming the Superman we know and love.

I have a feeling that in future films, we'll see him actively expanding on the final portion that's been absent in the films thus far - Superman as a public persona. He'll have to in order to combat his growing deification in the eyes of the people.

If you go into it without expecting a brainless popcorn flick, there's a lot to digest. If you're just interested in raw spectacle, there's plenty of that, too, but don't go into it thinking it's going to give the subject matter light treatment. It's very much a movie that's targeted at fans of the characters.

Of all the depictions, Jesse's Lex is the most jarring for a comics fan, but it's pretty easy to see that this is just Lex affecting the image of a 21st Century tech mogul.
