>>
>>68681192

At this point, it doesn't matter if you "believe" in global warming. Yeah, the deniers are more delusional, but the evangelist left just pats themselves on the back and doesn't have any actual solutions.

Ever notice how limpwristed these international agreements are? Because at this point, if you want to combat climate change, being 'carbon neutral' isn't enough, and we're not even close to achieving that. To actually reverse the process, we have to be carbon NEGATIVE, and to do that we literally have to cease almost all industry and wipe out large segments of the population on a scale that makes WWII look like a pillow fight. There ain't no way you can live anything approaching a normal life and be "green". Solar and wind is laughable, electric cars create huge amounts of pollution through lithium mining, and no one is willing to stand up for nuclear.

By now, anything we do is already beside the point. The boomers fucked us all, and we're just along for the ride now.
>>
staunch conservative here, pro 2a, anti no-fault divorce, low taxes, minimal government etc. but even I will admit that we are destroying the planet's ecology at an alarming rate. Something like 50% of the world's phytoplankton has been wiped out in the last 60 years, our seas are getting dangerously overfished, aboreal masses are being cut down at a preposterous rate (admittedly replaced with pines)

environmentalism and liberalism need to be separated from each other, because its an issue that affects everyone

>disguise for big business interests

this is the oldest myth in the book. there is no room out there with a bunch of white men smoking cigars plotting to expolit the common man. If anything left wing big government's play more into the hands of special interests than free market conservatives.
>>
>>68681914

Outright rejection is probably very rare, but there's a lot of 'abuse' of the germ theory, using antibacterials and antibiotics willy nilly so the germs get stronger and stronger and resistant. Society is unwilling to bitch slap the moms and tell them to just let the kid's fever play out. At this rate, it's just a matter of time before a superbug arises.

This. People get caught up on the phrase "warming" and ignore the reality of human impact on Earth. Even if temperatures don't rise, air and water are constantly being polluted. The threat of air and drinking water one day becoming toxic doesn't seem to phase anyone, and thats terrifying. Just look at how "minor" an issue water poisoning from fracking is to most people. This happens in America and nothing has really been done to address it nationwide

>To actually reverse the process, we have to be carbon NEGATIVE, and to do that we literally have to cease almost all industry and wipe out large segments of the population on a scale that makes WWII look like a pillow fight.

LOL, no. our carbon capture technology is good enough that we only need ~20 GW of non-hydrocarbon based power to remediate everything we put out. That sounds like alot, but spread out over the globe its fucking nothing. At current solar and wind prices, it would cost less than 2$ billion.

The issue isn't whether or not we could fix things, its having all the countries get on board with a singular program and the collective will to deliberately build climate changing infrastructure.

If all the climate scientists are right, then whoever controls the carbon has effectively invented a weather machine.

What a bunch of shit, ~55 GW of solar alone is projected to be installed this year. The whole problem could be solved with less than $2 billion? GTFO.

And that's without the reality that 1. Stated solar capacities and actual power generation figures are usually wildly off (see Ivanpah) and 2. Creating solar panels ain't exactly environmentally friendly either, and they're not a source of reliable continuous power.

>>
>>68683314

Not really, most are not against admitting the climate is changing, it's the draconian policies that follow that spooks people. Like most people would probably be fine with some measure of gun control, but there's a rabid side that wants to get rid of all guns permanently so they're not willing to give up an inch.

Unfortunately, on the environmental issue (and it's not just climate), draconian policies are the only ones that'll have any sort of effect anymore. But try telling people that they can't eat any fish for a few years, can't drive, have to be under energy quotas, etc...people just won't accept it. It's really not a left vs right issue, as much as people want to paint it that way.

epin copypasta I made and keep posting in these threads because you dumb faggots can never come up with answers that aren't "hurr just google it m8 like a lot of scientists agree but never published their methodology or anything, they just agree so appeal to authority":

Prove it is:

A: happening (which I don't doubt).

B: can be directly linked to human actions like burning fossil fuels

C: post specifics, how the parts the humans are doing is actually significant. Like what percent is our fault.

D: post specifics, about just how fast "climate is changing" since "global warming" is no longer the meme term. I want real statistics like "we are getting X warmer every year and I will have to worry about it in Y years becuase Z happened and is devastating"

E: post specifics, about just why I should give two fucks if hipsters faggots have to move their shitty cities 2 miles inland while I pay for retarded infrastructure that would probably cost more

F: if all of that is all real and shit, why I would care if it's as tragic as the lefty faggots think, when they're all just destroying our countries and children's futures with mass immigration of mudslimes and taconiggers and increased socialism to support these subhumans

G: Explain how wind turbines that are complete and utter shit, cost more fossil fuels to build and transport and assemble and shit than they save over their liftime and only work in wind, but not too much wind so you have to use tradition power sources anyway, how solar isn't complete shit that get ruined by dust, only works during the day, without clouds or fog or any retard with an umbrella is within 20 miles

H: Explain why we should be pouring billions of my taxpayer money into this when it is proven the private sector is many times more efficient than any government grant program or research fund. If a company makes and patents the next big innovation in energy, they will quite literally become one of the biggest companies in existence

It's called Bilderberg and it's a mix of black and white, Jew and gentile, male and female. Some aren't even all that rich, they're just in a position to be influential (ie. media/politics).

The super-elite aren't as racially prejudiced as most think, because they're not affected by ghetto culture, the "patriarchy," religious biases... All that matters is preserving the economic status quo, consolidating and centralising power, and keeping the world as ignorant and divided against itself as possible.

There are other connected groups, movements and secret societies that are heavily bigoted. Zionism is against gentiles, most masonic lodges are segregated by gender etc. If you're useful/related to the elites, your race/gender is largely irrelevant and they'll find a place for you (the Prince lodge caters to black males for example).

If you're their enemy, being a white male won't save you, and they won't bail someone out of a jam based on skin colour or gender.

Cows only emit carbon that is in the environment already. They eat plants that take in CO2, emit methane and CO2, and while Methane is a potent greenhouse gas, it then reacts to form CO2 after a number of years. So by all means, stop eating cows, there are serious environmental effects created by the way we dispose of their waste.

But don't think to yourself that you have solved global warming, not when there are still power plants and vehicles that are releasing carbon that has been trapped underground for billions of years, and that we have no idea how to sequester again.

did you not read my post? its not a matter of implementation. back when "global warming" first became a thing, a bunch of engineers figured out that you could cool off the planet by doing global atmospheric injections. good thing we didn't because our understanding of the phenomena was incomplete.

before we go and start draining our atmosphere of CO2 by the gigaton, we have to make absolutely sure we aren't going to fuck shit up any further, AND we have to sort out the political details of creating a first of its kind global climate infrastructure.

I mean, if you want me to take global warming seriously, yes. Back up any claims you might be making with facts.

all I know is what I learned in college: anyone who so much as mentions a "global climate" is a shitter, no matter what they believe

I can't, its too delicious. I only eat cowmeat in special occasions though.

This is the real "inconvenient truth". No one actually has a solution that anyone is willing to implement.

When nuclear energy was discovered, Einstein explained the potential to FDR and we had atomic bombs within 3 years of the first chain reaction.

When JFK wanted to go to the Moon, NASA designed the Saturn V within a couple years and got there before the end of the 60s.

Manhattan and Apollo were enormously expensive, continental efforts, but they were feasible and achievable because there was a good understanding of the problems and solid plans to overcome them. Neither is true of the climate problem.

Everything else is just noise.

I'd like to see a source that there was consensus on that.

>H: Explain why we should be pouring billions of my taxpayer money into this when it is proven the private sector is many times more efficient than any government grant program or research fund. If a company makes and patents the next big innovation in energy, they will quite literally become one of the biggest companies in existence

Letting the private sector research fusion power unsupervised can yield some pretty scary results, we didn't outsource the manhattan project

Hope this helps a bit

Also, we are pretty close to solving the fusion problem

My impression has been that both of them acted like morons, both of them acted more aggressive than they needed to (Trayvon acting like a punk, George acting like a paranoid), either one of them could have backed off but neither did, and either one could have died. But since Trayvon died and George lived, it's MUH SKITTLES.
>>
>Conservatives: if you don't agree with our policies you're probably a terrorist and want to blow up a bus or something

Man, they really took fear mongering to an entire new level.

>More than 100 world leaders have been meeting in Paris since late last month to try to forge some sort of accord to limit emissions and the use of fossil fuels. Although the world as a whole is deeply worried about climate change, Americans are largely unconcerned with the issue.

>Schwarzenegger has spent the past week in Paris with current California Gov. Jerry Brown (D), and the two have been speaking about ongoing dysfunction that has kept the U.S. from dealing with climate change. California has been suffering from a massive drought, the likes of which has been made worse by the warming planet.

What gives? Referring to the first paragraph.

16.

I think it's good for kids to grow up as a liberal and gradually into more conservative values.

It means they were raised by pretty good parents and then they got to experience the horrible fucking shitshow of real life and take a good hard look at their own life and begin making adjustments.
It's healthy and is a good way of teaching real introspection. It's what makes you finally an adult.

Because there's nothing the average Joe can do. We're relying on big companies and corporations to make the changes.

A different, DIFFERENT cunt here.

I'd read that shit.

this. US has laws involving proper disposal of electronics and TV goods. gets shipped to china, it's burned en masse and the smoke floats back to wherever.

It's a two way street but China gives zero fucks. Well, okay. They're starting to care about car emissions due to Beijing's air. Whee.
>>
>>68691958

Beijing's a bit of a special case because it's surrounded on 3 sides by mountains and the wind blows all the pollution in. Kinda like Washington DC, it was never meant to be a real city, just an administrative district.

This is exactly what is happening. "Hey sign here and you get to be on a major scientific paper!"

No True Scotsman
You asked for links, you were given links, and you said "no, real links".
>This is exactly what is happening. "Hey sign here and you get to be on a major scientific paper!"
For all of them, really? For what, 80%? You're pulling stuff out of your ass, and you're not getting at the relevant thing which the people that actually wrote these things.
>>68693661

>Yes, this happens. It is a legitimate logical fallacy.
I'm not saying it's not real, I'm saying it's a bullshit fallacy to level at anyone here about climate change because no one here is a climate scientist (although I bet you would say it even if someone was, just that they're appealing to their own wrongly-placed authority, or you'd say it's confirmation bias, or some other fallacy you can attempt to fit to almost any argument). We can only look at what's been said and done by those who are more trained in the field and have actually studied the data and the models.

Remember when they used to talk about the planet Venus and say Earth could be like that if we weren't careful and caused a "runaway greenhouse" effect?

Then someone actually did the math and found out that even if all the CO2 on the fucking planet was released into the atmosphere it still wouldn't cause a runaway greenhouse effect.

An entire generation of kids was terrorized with that shit. "Oh no, kids! Be careful or you might turn Earth into HELL."

The rainforest is an overgrown heap of human negligence, cancer and toxins. It needs replaced by human regulated preserves and farmland. It needed it 200 years ago.
