I've actually been to Deluxe studio and such and had an argument with a top guy about pirating back in 2005 and they get red in the face about it.
The actors don't get affected but everyone else in the industry work on less wages then 11 million a movie.

Theft is a fairly concrete idea, and doesn't require a lot of discussion. I should think that the subject of something melodramatically misnamed like "internet piracy" keeps arising again and again because there are a few profiteers who desperately want to label it theft for the benefit of their continued gain, despite the fact that it lacks most of the salient characteristics of theft.

Pirating has influenced the type of films that get green-lit, since nowadays the only things getting made are the 200 mil block busters designed with the intent of breaking the box-office, and the smaller """indie""" movies that solely exist as tax write offs, but nothing in between.
