I was so hyped when the blu-ray came out on my birthday 8 years ago or whenever it was. Fucking love this movie.

Good movies prove themselves in the long term by rewatchability, and appealing to multiple generations. It doesn't matter how good or bad a movie supposedly is if no one watches it 5 years after its in theaters.

You're right, this movie is amazing i hope my sons , watch this too lol
I watched it for the first time a few years ago and really liked it. I'd probably give it a solid 8/10.
Bastion is annoying shouting at the book the whole time, but it at least comes together in a great way at the end after everythingis destroyed
I also loved this thing and the bleak and dismal final act.

I grew up watching a badly recorded VHS copy of this movie that my mom made me and always enjoyed it as a fun film to watch on the weekends with her. Two years ago my mom died and a few months after that I decided to watch this again, as a man in my 30s. I made it to that scene near the end when the child empress cries out to Bastian "Why won't you do what you dream?" while the entire world is crumbling around her and the boy sits in emotional turmoil because of his doubt and insecurity, unable to even call out a single word. I burst out crying because I realized that I have not followed my dreams and the closest person in the world to me killed herself slowly with prescription drugs and I was left alone in an empty life with a unsatisfying job and people who didn't care about me. The next day I made some serious life changes and am a much happier person that is working on goals that I want, not what other people think I should be doing and am filling my days with activities that actually make me happy. I still have not rewatched that movie since that day and I don't think I ever will again. But I won't forget how powerful it was in making me understand the importance of dreams and living a life that is true to who you are.

A movie with some genuinely powerful and beautifully done moments, and all around entertaining and memorable.
That being said, trying really hard not to be that guy, but it's a really really awful adaptation of the book. Like, it only covers the first arc of a much much larger story, and as such essentially removes the themes of the book, and the emotional journey and arc of the main character.
That being said, by the very nature of the book, it would be literally impossible to adapt it to film, it plays around with a lot of very meta ideas, and just can't function in any other medium, so the movie is to be commended for getting a good movie out of a book that's literally impossible to adapt to film.

I hated Artax's death in the Swamps of Sadness.
>be 9
>saw this in theater with two friends
>sees noah hathaway
>"get a load of this faggot"
>enter 5th grade
>meet 6th grader looks just like Atreyu
>befriend him
>enter adulthood
>meet future best friend's daughter for first time

Scary/10
It used to scary the everloving piss out of me when I would watch it as a very young child. Weirdly enough, the wolf scared me the least out of anything. My mom tells me that I was particularly afraid of the giant sneezing turtle. I haven't watched it in a couple of decades, so I don't know how it holds up, but I absolutely love the soundtrack. Nobuo Uematsu was clearly a fan.

>yfw Artax could talk in the book
>AURYN is the only thing protecting Atreyu from the influence of the swamps
>as Artax is sinking in the swamps, he tells Atreyu to turn around and leave, since he doesn't want the kid to watch him die
>He doesn't get resurrected at the end of the book, whoever dies stays dead

the only true answer
>>68648911
So would you give it a 10/10?
Thank you for the emotions.
AURYN / 10
But let's face it, the book was better. If the book was more faithfully adapted, this movie could've been remembered on the same sentence as LotR. The book was very good.

I don't dare rewatch it for risk of ruining it.
>>68654912
Don't try it. It does.
>>68655044
I learned my lesson when Netflix got all the shows I watched back in the '80s. OG Transformers and such. Shit, they are terriblethough the original animated film is still pretty fuckin' solid, surprisingly.
>>68654912
>>68655044
Watching it again can't be any worse than watching The Neverending Story 3.
Why don't atheists realize god is real?
did anyone else look at the OP and think he was holding a gun to his head?
or should i call a support line...
The death of Artax has been burnt deep inside my soul from a young age
holy ahit i still cry when i see it
I think of my dog who passed a few years ago, we grew together

I'd say 7.5\10. The great thing about these kid's movies is that they produce good rule34 though.
